Flagstaff

I've been in Flag since '88 & was @ the USD/NAU game last Saturday. The visitors' tailgate area is now out in no man's land - west end of P64, see link below. The dome is 73, former tailgate areas were P65 & P66 before that.

http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=nau+parking+lot+maps&qs=AS&sk=HS1AS4&FORM=QBIR&pq=nau%20parking&sc=8-11&sp=6&qs=AS&sk=HS1AS4#view=detail&id=CF6EBC2378F2C408DF93436157DC518DA11B32DD&selectedIndex=10" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I also confirmed this w/ my NAU contacts. New AD making changes.

Time to raise a little extra hell in the dome. Also, can't park anymore in P64 without a pass. Free parking is in P62 & P62A & there are free shuttles running. Be farther to get to the beer at halftime. Bring your flasks.

FUCK NAU. FUCK NAU and the horse they rode in on. I had it OUT with their SID 2 years ago over this very issue. For 15 years I brought 15-40 people up there, spent from $800-$3,000 on food, lodging, parking passes, etc., etc., and could buy any parking spots, ANY location that I wanted...2 years ago they changed it and put ALL Griz fans in one spot, and to get guaranteed spots you had to buy the spot for the entire fucking year. We were all relegated to P05 last time, which we managed to make work with the help of the Alumni party...this, despite the fact that the "NAU reserved" parking/tailgating lots were half-empty (or more) and looked like the lots in front of Wa/Griz at about 7 in the morning on game day. These guys are doing everything in their power to get Griz fans to stop coming to the game. I'll never understand it. Fucking idiots.

Sorry I won't be there to have your back this year, O. Was great to meet you last time...somehow someone is going to have to get those idiots to see the light.

It was good meeting you last time, AZ.

You know Haslam spent six years at NAU as Associate AD for External Operations where he "supervised all the day-to-day operations of the marketing and media relations offices . . .
directed game management, facility operations, and ticketing for the athletic department . . .

Even though he's a non-drinker, he understands what tailgating means. He's even bought me beers before -- at Duke's. A chat with him couldn't hurt.

When O'Day was AD, they would always have a Thursday gathering at Duke's. I haven't heard of any plans this year.

Well, I've relocated to San Antonio, so there'll be no more Flagstaff trips for me...then again, after the 2011 debacle and goatrope trying to find a spot to tailgate, I had kind of made a commitment that I was going to spend as little money in Flagstaff as possible ANYWAY....so maybe the relocation was God's way of putting my money where my mouth was. :lol:

From the owner of Granny's Closet in Flag:

Dear Griz Fans:
When in Flagstaff you have to visit Granny's Closet sports bar. Granny's feeds Coach Wayne Tinkle and his conference champs basketball team when the Griz are in town, and hosts the Griz fans for the Griz/Cat game in November.
Stop by for breakfast or lunch Saturday. Open at 9am. Come get a Bloody Mary or your favorite beverage. Griz fans welcome to Flagstaff and welcome to Granny's Closet.
Sincerely
Martin Zanzucchi
Owner

Good food & good place to watch sports.

I agree with everything you said, but please don't tell me that #4 exists! i can't believe it! One must "ogle" until one dies! If one doesn't, one must be dead! :!:

So ogling...okay. Diddling...not okay. Like fine art, it's okay to appreciate it while visiting the museum but not proper or feasible to take home for your own.

Or as my wife says, "I don't care where you get your appetite, as long as you eat at home."

GSA: The tailgate will be in Lot P somewhere. It officially starts at 4:00 PM.

From NAU: Griz tailgate will be in Lot P64, a very large lot south of where NAU traditionally tailgates (P66). http://www2.nau.edu/nau-map/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

RTO Griz fans from Phoenix: Lunch at Busters roughly 1:30, tailgate at 3:00. Still evolving.

I am flying in from Colorado for the game. First ever visit to Flagstaff. Looking forward to it. I have heard nothing but good things about the town on Route 66. I will be celebrating my 40th birthday with my buddy JLew who also turns 40 the day before the game. Not much has changed since college, only we drink good bourbon now instead of jager.

GO GRIZ!!!!

I like Flagstaff
