This is pretty funny stuff...
As a born and bred, 3rd generation Montanan(from Great Falls, live in Bozeman, family in Butte),and having been to most of the Cat/Griz games over the last 20+ years, I think I can offer some advice....
Unfortunately, you're gonna run into some grade-A a$$holes. It's the nature of the beast, a rivalry game and there's alcohol. MOST older Cat fans(those in their mid 30s and 40s or older) will give you a playful ribbing but are generally nice folks who understand the beauty of the rivalry. SOME younger fans, those who didn't grow up during "the streak" don't understand that MSU wasn't always been this successful and carry a large sense of entitlement. Avoid these people.
You're gonna hear nightmare stories about spit, and feces, and someone's grandmother getting punched.. take everything with a grain of salt.
Dress warm, get to the tailgates early. have fun, and DO talk sh!t...just make sure it's funny and good natured. Enjoy the gameday experience; it's actually pretty cool these days. A far cry from 20 years ago.
If ya stay for the evening, win or loss, DO NOT go downtown. Check out the Hideaway or the Korner Klub or go see a band at the Filling Station.
Bonus FYI: For breakfast(and OR pregame cocktails), go to the Grandtree. Everyone will tell you Jam or the Western. They're wrong. Go to Grandtree. Chicken Fried Steak and a Bloody. You betcha.
