The bye is not the issue. The issue is that they reward teams that play in first round games by getting a day off after. So a lower seed gets a game1, off, game2 QF, game 3 SF, Final vs we get bye, game1 QF, Game2 SF, Final. It makes no sense. They have to do this because of the womens and mens tourney at the same location. However it really sucks for them to give these lower teams a game to get used to the floor and arena and shake the nerves...then give them a day off to prep for the higher seed. VS the higher seed has to wait and prep for whoever wins and doesn't get used to playing in that arena until they are under fire.
Just go win the games you're asked to play on the days you're asked to play them. I almost sense Griz fans preparing for gloom and doom.....and of course neither the opponents' play or Griz play will be the deciding factor....but more likely these obscure things like tourney location, crowd size, opponent advantage in scheduling etc. Whine, whine, whine!
If the Griz acted like some of us fans they'd be in trouble. I've got confidence in the Griz to play well and leave it all on the court. It's basketball and the deciding factors are most likely to involve the players on the floor and their performance during the game!
Go Griz!
You are being quite ridiculous. I also believe in the Griz and think they will win the tourney. That's not what this post or CONVERSATION is about. Nobody is whining....we are making relevant conversation however about the poor creation of the tourney. Site and Structure. Right now they not only eliminated the reward for winning the conference but they also are decreasing the reward of a bye, because they are giving a day off reward for a 1st round victory. Notice none of the major conferences give a day off between. That is the point being made.
....a "conversation" that will continue for the foreseeable future it seems. Haven't heard of any changes coming next year when they move to Boise. If beating a dead horse is fun for you....you'll be able to have the same conversation next year too!
A 40 minute game with media timeouts every 4 minutes, team timeouts when called, 15 minute halftime, stoppages for video reviews, FT"s, etc. shouldn't be any kind of significant physical drain on a college-aged finely-conditioned basketball scholarship athlete.
Quit whining!
Go Griz!
