Final grades for the 2025 Grizzlies

Thank you for all the incredible content this year Brint.

My own $0.02 …. I would grade QB and RB at A+. I thought Gillman and Ah Yat were the class of the conference and the FCS.

WR I’d say A-, only knock being the dropped/tipped pass that resulted in a pick 6 in the first cat game. Other than that I find no faults in their play.

Tight end id also go A-. This group didn’t post many stats….but they didn’t need to, the team needed them in blocking support, and I thought they were awesome at it.

OL I would give a C-. I thought they were bouyed by the talent surrounding them in general, and I thought they played to the level of their competition, for better or for worse. I thought they played well against the cats (obviously had some lapses)….but also allowed too much pressure from teams like ISU.
B+ OL. Good pass protection as season went on. Pretty good run game most of time. First and Second team all conference players and frosh all-American. Depth. Hurt by a few injuries.

QB - A-. It took him a while to get clicking early on and he's still learning. Huge potential. Just huge.

RB - A. Gillman and big depth. Virtually no fumbles. Some tough yards. Good receivers.

Receivers - B+ or A-. I am torn. Receivers were terrific and fast, but at times I wanted more out of the them. The early season drops got solved.

OL - B+ - Good pocket protection after first part of season. Good run game most of the time. Depth. Honors players.

TE - B+ or A-. I wish we had gotten more pass production from them. Probably not their faults.

DL - B. Depth, but not quite enough top end players. Not their fault.

LB's - A-. Were better when our guys weren't hurt. Good depth.

Corners - A- with Loud. B without him. Too many other injuries hurt too.

Safeties - B+

ST's - B+. Morrison's kicking dropped off. Coverage on KO and punts was good, but could have been better at times. Pibal had a truly amazing career. I met him at a gas station in the Tri-Cities when he was a frosh. He had a Griz sticker on his beat up Jeep or whatever it was, so we talked then (and every season). I introduced him by phone to Guy Bingham, but don't know if they ever got together.

Coaching - B+ to A-. Coaching was mostly very good, but there were a few times when I wasn't sure what seemed to have gone wrong. Like defending the Cat QB run in the first game, although there were some bad missed tackles by guys in position in that game. I generally liked the play-calling but don't pretend to know play-calling. Bobby's at the top of FCS coaching.

State of the Program - A

Crowd - A

Season - Very good, except the Cat losses. Nevertheless, 13-2 and semis.

That’s probably not true. You just make up stunk. But wgo cares. Not much difference between a 50 yard and 75 yard TD pass.

2020 - no season
2021 - 10-3 overall, 6-2 in conference, win over Cats by 19 in Missoula
2022 - 8-5 overall, 4-4 conference, loss to Cats by 34 in Bozeman
2023 - 13-2 overall, 7-1 in conference, win over Cats by 30 in Missoula
2024 - 9-5 overall, 5-3 in conference, loss to Cats by 23 in Bozeman
2025 - 13-2 overall, 7-1 in conference, loss to Cats by 3 in Missoula, loss to Cats by 25 in Bozeman.

My grades for the special teams positions and players are as follows.

Kicker Jo Silver A. His only miss the entire season was 1 extra point. He was 100% on field goals and 95% on extra points. Very good stats for college football.

Punter Ty Morrison A+. When it comes to punting average in the conference only NAU was better, when you look into NAU though you notice they were booming kicks at altitude that outkicked their coverage. Montana’s punt average, coverage and placement combined was the best in the Big Sky and possibly the best in the nation.

Long snapper Grayson Pibal A+. It has already been stated his snaps were perfect this season

Hike do you care as much about the success of your own life as you do about a college football program that doesn’t care about you? Asking for a friend.

So tired of posters like you saying 13-2 saying we had such a great season. We had approx. 10 good players and that is giving some the benefit of the doubt. Several games were close that never should have been. In the playoffs we beat a teams that had lost players due to injury. We lost the big sky and the semis. You could argue we were ranked #3 in the FCS and that may be true except the FCS sucks now. More like playing D2 for competition.
I’m tired of you for ripping on our players by saying things like we had approximately 10 good players. Every single player on our roster and on the rosters of teams we faced including D2 CWU were elite football players in high school. We are in the top or second best conference in the subdivision and we were first in offense and second in defense in the Big Sky. That doesn’t happen with only 10 good players unless our coaching staff is way better than everyone else. Ah Yat was the only 4,000 yard passer in the nation this year and that is a stat for all of our guys on offense not just Ah Yat. We kept finding ways to win games which is the sign of a great team. I think you can make an argument that we need to improve strength and conditioning to win a championship and a separate argument that we could look into a different defensive scheme but to say we only had 10 good players means you are clueless, not paying attention and not a good fan of the Griz.

Hunter Peck was a top end player on the defensive line. Leading the Griz in sacks and tackles for loss, 33 total tackles from the defensive end position, 4 quarterback hurries and a forced fumble. That is top end production and the voters of the all Big Sky teams agree. They voted Hunter Peck first team all conference.

Do we have him for 1 more year or is he done? Would love to see him with a bit more weight and part of a 4 down linemen front in 2026.

He is done unfortunately I believe as he was a redshirt senior. I could be wrong if there is an extenuating circumstance related to when he was at Caroll, someone else probably has the right answer. I agree that he would have looked great in a 4 down front next season with a little more weight.

It's a good thing he was well coached at Carroll.

What about Morrison kicking?

What about Morrison kicking?
That would probably be a C+. Good thing our kicker is Jo Silver so Morrison’s kicking is irrelevant moving forward and Morrison is an elite punter. It looks like we will have Morrison and Silver coming back next season but will need to find a new long snapper either from high school, the portal or a position player learning how to snap. If a position player is going to snap he will probably change to being a full time long snapper and no longer a position player.

lol and no I don’t trust you
You don't donate anything to football, you have said in the past. You have said you have a house near campus that will go to UM when you die. Big deal. We are talking football. UM would love for you to disappear, as would almost all of egriz.

Do you know if Pibal is going to try for the NFL? I don’t know how he is with NFL style punt protection and blocking technique because that is another animal but his snaps are definitely good enough. Even if he does not know blocking technique that well now it is something he can learn.

You do not mention that in your first grade. I was going to call you out on it but it's not worth the effort because you would deflect like you always do. Are you and Hoops the same poster ?

Morrison is not the kicker and won’t be next season so his kicking stats are not relevant. How Jo Silver did as kicker and how Ty Morrison did as punter is an accurate reflection of how the program was this year and will be next year because next year it will be Silver kicking field goals and Morrison focusing on punting. In my opinion that is the right thing to do in regards to having the kicker and punter not be the same person. The kicking motions and mechanics are quite different between the 2. Someone doing both can easily goof up one or both.

Morrison is a reflection of the poor decisions the coaches made all year.

Just a FYI, Keim was a 4 year long snapper at Glacier, and was absolutely solid. Up until then, they said he was the only freshman to ever letter for Bennett, and I bet you could count on one hand the number of poor snaps he had in his four year high school career. I remember thinking for his size, he was amazingly quick getting down on punt coverage after snapping the ball.
