Fife

The thing to me is, the offense seemed more in sync with Fife. He's definitely more of a leader type and those are the main qualities you want from a QB. Yes, receivers dropped some passes from Wh Yat but, they also caught a couple passes that shouldn't have been caught. They were way high. Fife seem ready to lead this year. Ah Yat just isn't there imo.

Both QBs did well. Cannot knock Ah Yat for dropped passes that were right in the hands of the receivers. The only thing I knock Ah Yat for is ball security when he nearly lost it when he was being chased down by the two MO State defenders. Ah Yat knew that after the play and will need to work on it. We are in good hands with either QB!!!!
yes… because turning the ball over once in your first career start is terrible, pls nobody tell him about the first year of peyton manning’s NFL career..

Seems like Fife should start next week, and depending on how the game is going, Ah Yat should come in for the second half. Fife had a bit more swagger, and was less hesitant on his decision making. That's just more game experience than Ah Yat.
fife in no way shape or form had more swagger then that kid that ran someone over and then talked sh*t to him. lmao

Ok since this is not the official game thread so I am gonna comment on Fife/AH Yat.First Ah Yat : Bobby really likes him and wants him to be the future.I think they started him to see where he was at.Which we all saw.Overall pretty good play but yet not ready to be the leader/starter.He is just to young and not developed mentally or phisically. Ay Yat near 3 quarters of play,12 points achieved.(this includes pats and field goals).
Logan Fife is a man.Much more mature and experienced. A leader now.17 points in a hair over 1 quarter.(This includes pats and field goals).
It depends on what the team wants to achieve but the objective looks pretty clear and that is to win. That being said Logan will get us there. He is tough physically and mentally.

I think Ah Yat managed the offense better, having rewatched the game. He had well rounded game, was better QB at running the read option, which isn't a gimmic play in this offense.
I wasn't thrilled about a couple of those long side check down plays, which always make me nervous, but that's Pease's call.

The fumble, which I had good view of wasn't great, but it happens. Gasp at the play being a potential disaster, but the reason the game was tight was a botched return and no one is calling for a benching there.

No one is benching Fife for a stalled drive that should have salted the game away. The Griz needed a long pass completion, not a QB run.

The Griz played a lot of their roster from the start. I think it's hard to sift through that and make decisions about starters at QB.

It also looked to me like Montana could have mashed their way through the game, given the depth of its O-line and fresh running backs that weren't used as much as they could have been. Would like to see more of every RB, regardless of who starts.

I think Kay has the higher upside and needs the snaps to grow. I think Fife is a great guy off the bench if the team needs a spark. I fully believe that the more game reps that Kay gets, it will benefit the Griz in November and December.

Having rewatched the game, I'm also more impressed with Ah Yat than I was before. He was going through progressions and making tougher throws. All of Fife's passes were basically one-read-and-throw type plays, which is fine, but we didn't see him do much more than throw to the guy he's supposed to.

Agreed with HHB above, I think putting the time in an KAY will pay more dividends for us over the season.

So what's the correct call ? Do you start AH YAT to get more game experience and see how it goes and then play Fife if needed ? Or do you play Fife and see if we can get a good lead and then play AH YAT to get the experience ?

Ah Yat is the guy that should be playing and it's not worth debating.

There is nothing any QB on the roster does better than KAY plus he has the intangibles you don't see from any QB we have had since Jordan Johnson
It is very debatable.

I need to see more of both. Ky throws a damn pretty ball and doesn't seem afraid to sling it down field. I think he is going to be a star. Both ran the ball much better than I expected, with speed, and finished a couple of runs hard when they needed the yards. Fife seemed to be more in control and drew a very nice downfield TD. But....I also think it was a different game when he came in. The OL was starting to wear down the D line, the running game was way more productive, and the Griz D coaches were beginning to figure the Mo St passing attack. Hauck said he planned to give both a full half but the # of plays were so low he had Ky run the first series of the second. I would not be surprised to see Fife get the start at ND.
Hard to believe that Hauck actually told us what he was going to do and then did it LOL.
I'm sure they'll have lots to pick apart for both QBs in the game film.
I like the idea of having each QB play for approx. a half, especially in the non-conference start to the season. This is definitely not a Vidlak - McDowell situation where McD clearly was way ahead of Vidlak in many ways.
Our first road game should show us a lot about what these two can do in an adverse environment.

And now seeing what happened to the Idaho QB it should be easy to see why we need 2 experienced starting QBs
