Fife in the portal

You’re entitled to your opinion but the facts showed otherwise. In time time I believe AhYat will develop into a quality QB.

Yet during this season Fife stats were measurably better… percentage of completions, yards per pass… Not hating AhYat but he threw as many picks in this last game as Fife had all season. So ball security was much more of an issue for AhYat who turned it over far more throughout the year

Again this is all yesterday’s news. I will never understand why Fife wasn’t even given a snap in So Dakota when our offense was struggling to even get a first down. We needed a spark and we will never know in Fife might have provided it. Does not matter now. Go Griz
Fife didnt play because the outcome of the game was obvious. Hauck wanted to get Ah Yat experience. It was the correct move. Hauck has been criticized for not developing a young QB. Hes not the hard headed fool some posters are claiming he is.

If Ay Yat is UM’s future, then I fear it is pretty bleak. I saw no “progress” throughout the season: he takes forever to decide what he is going to do, he just stands there waiting to be sacked, his release is slow as molasses. I was thrilled when I learned he was coming to Missoula, hoping for a reincarnation of his dad
Some interesting context…Brian Ah Yat’s stat lines his freshman (95) and sophomore (96) seasons.

11-27 0 TDs, 2 INTs. 40.7 completion %

381-609 53 TDs, 21 INTS. 62.6 completion %

That 21 INTs in 1996 sticks out. Like father, like son. Gunslinger mentality.

Kid is going to be good. You can see the ability. The drive when Griz backed up inside the 5 and drove the length of the field you could see it. Then he threw pick inside the 20. He can learn from those mistakes. I can see why the coaches leaned towards that talent. And I understand why Fife was frustrated also.I really like what he does when they move the pocket for him. Gives him the option to run and gives him a clearer vision of receivers. The timing throws seemed to be when he made more of his bad throws. That can improve with experience.

This is 100% correct.

Interesting--but not unsurprising--how Fife did NOT thank the coaching staff or the University for the opportunity to play here.

Fumbling Fife (two against Tenn St and one in the OT loss to Weber on the last critical play) doomed him to the bench forever in Hauck's mind. I wish him well. He and Bobby just did not feel the love.

Nope. I do not see why the coaching staff kept putting him out there. If he is all we have next year, then I hope I am wrong.

Why? Ah Yat threw 6 ints to Fife's 2 in spite of Fife taking more snaps. Worse was Ah Yat's inability to make first downs, his 3 and outs led to turnovers on downs. Ah Yat had poor marks for ball security.
Yep fife doubled up TD passes over Ah Yat. And Ah Yat doubled up INTs over Fife. Not great

He may develop, and I hope he does, but right now, he would only start for Northern in the Frontier conference.
