The coming weekend is a bit of a “good news -- bad news” deal. There are three ranked-vs-ranked matchups (four if you count the North Dakota - Weber State Big Sky “conference” game). But we also have a bunch of ranked teams playing opponents with losing records. (Example: NDSU gets 1-8 Western Illinois for a home game. :? )

There are a few cases where the opponent for the ranked team has a winning 5-4 record … I used the best of those (based on the Sagarin numbers). That still left me short of choices, so I looked for some other games that look competitive between unranked opponents. One has a kind of funny twist: Austin Peay vs UT Martin. It happens that those were the top two “Others Receiving Votes” in yesterday’s STATS poll. Since Dartmouth and Princeton are hogging two meaningless poll spots, it just seems right to include that matchup. It helps that both have nice 6-3 records.

To round out the list, I included the SHSU at Abilene Christian game, which the Sagarin numbers say will be very competitive.

As usual, underdog on the left, you can pick two, and you can change your mind later.

WTH. Campbell to further expose Kennesaw St
Dartmouth over Princeton to see if Jack will respond and say that it wouldn’t be an upset and point out I’ve never played the game. Just playing PR. lol

NAU over Sac st if Thomson doesn’t play
I tend to agree. Latest out of Sac is that Thomson is "day to day," so we'll see.

Even though NAU is traditionally a strong home team, I just don't see this happening. I've seen some bad NAU teams over the years as a Jacks fan but this years defense is steaming pile of dog shit bad. Taking the U of Arizona and Western New Mexico games and only including peer institutions, NAU is giving up 40.1 points per game. Add in a nearly non-existent run game and a beat up offensive line and Cookus simply can't win it on his own.

Sac State wins by 7-10 and Andy Thompson gets retribution.

Why did he leave?

Interesting. Has anyone actually seen the "Fighting Camels" play? We sure haven't. So I'm guessing that most of those votes are "against" Kennesaw State rather than really "for" a Campbell upset. ;)

(Bump)

Well, I guess I picked some good candidates. Half of the teams in the poll did indeed lose. Unfortunately, the top vote-getter, the "Fighting Camels," lost (late) by a FG.
