FCS STATS Poll, Nov 3 (Griz #2)

With eight ranked teams losing, the pollsters had a lot to deal with. Will likely take some time for us to absorb what they decided up and down the list. Tarleton got off a bit easier than I thought … and they did do the easy call to move Lehigh up to #4. They did, as I guessed, move South Dakota into the top-25. And, also as expected, Austin Peay and Northern Arizona dropped out.

Tarleton did not drop quite as much as I guessed, but that’s no real surprise … the pollsters have been kind to them all year. That sort of goes along with the way they rewarded the winner, Abilene Christian. Indirectly, the pollsters admitted that they had been under-rating the Wildcats and jumped them up six spots.

The pollsters were also much easier than I expected on South Dakota State after their loss at home to a (3-6) opponent. The Jackrabbits have now lost two in a row and I thought they would at least drop out of the top-10. Keeping the bunnies that high means that some teams that I thought would move up … didn’t.

But on that same note, the pollsters were also a bit easier than I expected on UC Davis, which also lost to a (3-6) opponent. That goes along with dropping Lamar only six spots after they lost to (3-6) Incarnate Word.

With Northern Arizona and Austin Peay dropping out, the pollsters did move in the replacements I projected. They did not, however, reward South Dakota with as high a ranking as I guessed.

Disappointing that SDSU only falls to 8 here and 9 in the coaches poll. I don't believe the committee would hold them in a top 8 seed, but well see how things shake out in Vermillion when they lose to the Yotes.

Tarleton at 6 and then 7 in the coaches poll is much more realistic and now all the Griz need to do is account for the man in the mirror! Eastern is up, we just need to go 1-0 this weekend.

Christmas came early--Yes, I am very biased.-- for The Shi__y Kitties 😸. I would put both undefeated Lehigh and Tennessee Tech @
# 3 and 4 ahead of MSU @ # 5.

Guess I will have take off my GRIZ goggles : ( !!!

I saw Dom Izzo's notes on his ballot and he has "FBS win" next to Tarleton. That Army win is carrying a lot of weight with many of the voters I feel. Never mind that the Black Knights are 4-4 with wins over perennial powers like UAB, Charlotte and Air Force. That was an "FBS win" by god!

i am surprised to see that youngstown state dropped. they looked tough against ndsu, and seem to have lost mostly due to a couple of unforced fumbles near their own goal line. ndsu turned those into touchdowns after 19 yd and 9 yd drives. otherwise, youngstown was the more impressive team.

Check out this, both Griz and cats win out. NoDak beats NDSU, Griz move up to 1 cats at 2. Brawl becomes the National Championship. Could very well happen. Both teams win their brackets and face off again for NC.

In fairness to SDSU, they lost Mason. If.Mason is there, they play a much better game against NDSU, and beat Larry Bird's old school. Really, the same thing happened to Idaho losing their QB. There's no way Idaho loses those two games if Joshua Wood is the QB. If SDSU gets Mason back, they're a top 5 team. I hope they don't, but I hope Mason gets healthy and plays well next season. If any team loses there elite QB, they are not the same. ANY team.

What you say is true yet this year’s SD State isn’t last version even if everyone was healthy. I watched the cat-Bunnies game and they did not look overly impressive then. They were a decent team but they (QB included) looked very sloppy, as did msu. I also watched the beat down by the Buffaloes and their injured squad really did not belong in the top 20. They were pathetic.

The cats have improved considerably since their loss. No doubt SDSU has too. Yet this year’s teams for both msu and SDSU are not nearly as good as last year’s versions. Even with their QB back I don’t see the Bunnies as currently top 5.

And, the highlight reel, or lowlight reel in the case of YSU. They kick off at some point in the game and the NDSU guy is a yard or two deep and runs it out, down the left sideline, and YSU has FOUR BROKEN OR PISS POOR TACKLES and the guy takes it to the house. It was a sight to see...

That game was so weird. At times Youngstown State looked like a very good MVFC team that SHOULD win the game, and then two plays later they would do something incredibly stupid and it would turn into an immediate NDSU score. My ultimate conclusion was simply that with a cleaner game, Youngstown State probably could/should have won, and maybe NDSU isn't the juggernaut that everyone thought they were. I'm not making any claims that the Griz can or will beat the bison, just that my hopes are a little bit higher that they might be able to.

I'm kinda like that commercial on TV, where the guy it sitting in the Tatoo Parlor chair, with an arm full of NC Champs tatoos, which are all subsequently crossed out. The tatoo girl asks, 'Same thing again?' He answers, 'Yep, this is our year!'

I actually DO have a Griz tatoo, but I waited until the spring of 2002 to get it. CYA, or in this case CYT!

This is right on the money.

The shaggy Buffs are defending champs and still the team to beat. In particular their QB has looked very impressive and dangerous at times. Yet this year's version is not one of the monolithic beasts of some previous Bison teams. They may win it all. Teams will have to pass through the Fargo barn. However, it is far from a foregone conclusion they are this year's champs. Keep the faith.
