Crazy weekend for upsets: eight. That’s over a third of the ranked teams that actually played. Means there will be a major stirring of the pot, especially in the lower half.

Tennessee State (6-3) [25]

The loss by Tarleton State is not really a shocker, IMO. The Texans have been coasting along on a soft schedule (except for the loss to Baylor). The combined records of their FCS opponents is 26-41 … and after this weekend, Eastern Kentucky is the only one with a winning record. The question is: Will the pollsters be as “kind” to them as I have been? Of course, with them dropping down the Griz and several other teams move up.

The loss by Cenrral Arkansas at Utah Tech (1-9) IS a shocker, although Bears have also played a relatively weak schedule. I expect the pollsters to hammer them pretty hard.

North Dakota continues its free-fall, having lost three of its last four games. I used my standard, more or less, to drop them. However, it would not surprise me if the pollsters dropped them completely out of the Top-25.

After that, we get to the bloodbath, with five ranked teams losing to unranked opponents. Of those, I’m guessing that only Chattanooga will survive in the Top-25. So then I had get creative in selecting replacements. The easy calls (often preferred by the pollsters) was to bump up those unranked teams that upset the ranked teams. Hence: Western Carolina over Chattanooga, UT Martin over Tennessee State, Harvard over Dartmouth, and South Carolina State over North Carolina Central. I feel comfortable with the general result, although exactly where they end up in the Top-25 is pretty much a crapshoot.

Tarleton may not drop as much as I'm guessing, but they will surely be out of the Top-10. For the Griz to stay pit, the pollsters would have to jump Incarnate Word (7-2) or Idaho (6-3) over them. I don't see that happening
Well, it’s been a crazy year for the Griz in the polls.

One thing about Central Arkansas is ShunDerrick Powell was out this game with a tweaked hammie, which proves just how valuable he is to that team (and how not good they are when he's out). He also had an ankle injury and I think only had a handful of carries against Tarleton State in their other FCS loss. That dude is just a beast with the ball, which usually opens up their passing game a bit. If he comes back for the playoffs (which he should I believe), they'll be good enough to win a game I think. That said, losing to Utah Tech is just bad, so bad, and I imagine they'll get hammered down lower than #20. I think like #22 or #23.
