FCS Losing 10 More teams

UM and MSU drop to d2. That's what's going to happen if they don't make a move. Which they'd probably be happy with unfortunately

Sans any bold leadership from Main hall the grizzlies will be relegated to the FCS Backwater Conference. Well…..always the chance to play in the frontier!

I am in favor of a wait-and-see approach to making any rash moves now. There will be major changes in all of college football coming in the next few years, in my opinion. The introduction of the portal, and NIL money will necessitate some bold changes. But we should be prepared to quickly address opportunities when they arise, and not sure we have the fortitude to do so.

Any move we make should also be made by the Cats. And since the BOR is at the head of both programs, they will certainly have a say in anything which happens.

Montana State University is much better positioned to join an FCS conference than Montana. It has twice as many students and an annual budget that's $100 million more than what UM could justify. It would have to add sports, but MSU is in a good position to do it.

The Griz are the little brother likely to be left behind in this scenario. Not only that, but the Regents gave up on parity between these universities a decade ago. Last I looked MSU had more students enrolled in liberals arts programs than UM. No Regent is looking for balance between these two schools.

I may have to catch up, but I think both already did that.

Auto correct strikes again.

I don't see how UofM could move up at this point, msu could def make it work tho. Watching this school decline over the last decade has been quite the experience.

There will be no parity given that the current BOR is a heavily slanted in their favor, with the majority having MSU ties or being residents of the Gallatin Valley. Then there is the issue of the seated governor (who appoints the regents) having a computer science building named for him on their campus. The BOR didn’t find that to be a conflict of interest…. I wonder how they would vote if UM were to propose an engineering program.
