FBS Scared of NDSU

Dude. You guys average a new head coach about every three years for the next 20 more, and then come back and tell us where you are.

Nobody on here is doubting NDSUs run, but you need to show you can keep your dominance up over longer than 5 years after you become a stepping stone. I don't doubt NDSU can do that, but please hold off on the self-annointment.

Especially after seeing what happened to Georgia Southern with one bad coach.

Since 1987, NDSU has had 4 coaching changes whereas Montana has had 7 coaching changes. That coaching carousel will catch up with them.

NDSU...
1987-1996 R.E. "Rocky" Hager
1997-2002 Bob Babich
2003-2013 Craig Bohl
2014-Present Chris Klieman

Montana...
1986-1995 Don Read
1996-1999 Mick Dennehy
2000-2002 Joe Glenn
2003-2009 Bobby Hauck
2010-2011 Robin Pflugrad
2012-2014 Mick Delaney
2015-Present Bob Stitt

I definitely would not state that FBS schools are scared to schedule NDSU. What I will say is that if you are Kansas and you are going to schedule a FCS opponent, would you look to NDSU, a team that has had success against FBS, or would you look to Northern Colorado? In what is more-or-less a meaningless game, you want to make it as easy as possible with plans to get as many kids in the game as you can. It is the same reason Griz fans think scheduling Drake or San Diego instead of Delaware or Sam Houston makes some sense. They aren't scared to schedule Delaware or Sam Houston.

Scared is too strong of a word. Cautious is more accurate. They know that lesser teams can and do beat the favored team every year -- and obviously when the lesser team has the recent track record of NDSU then it is prudent to avoid the downside of what may be a rankings killing loss with no upside. If what you want is a cupcake then you don't want to risk ending up with a doughnut. NDSU is going to be reminded of why it is smart to avoid "lesser teams" after their opening game this year.

Just to clarify, i'm not an ndsu follower or fan. i'm only talking about what they've accomplished, not what they might down the road.

Thanks get'em! I was really curious to see what they said statistically. The app is surprisingly accurate. As far as NDSU goes beating up big time teams... It'll never happen. One, because they couldn't and two, top tier teams will never schedule them. I'm sure the "What's Ifs" factor into it.

 NDSU's wins over the last 5 years have been impressive, but give me a break! Kansas plays Big 12-quality talent every week where NDSU only has had to play one game each season against a Big 12 team. Give NDSU a Big 12 schedule and they won't be seeing the same success rate.

Yup! The have one hell of a hook up at ESPN. They're always talking about the bison. One article or announcer (don't remember which) said something along the lines of, "If you're an FBS team who has scheduled NDSU, drop that game. Don't show up. Make an excuse to get out of it." Seriously?! C'mon! Look out FBS here comes a top tier FCS team to get you!

If all this is true and FBS teams will "bobcat" the Bison, it is fortunate for NDSU that the athletic director (Gary Barta) at the University of Iowa is a former Bison quarterback and will honor the contract signed for the 2016 season game.

Very true. Not to take anything away from NDSU but playing a Big 5 conference schedule, week in and week out, will "beat up" a team physically. Depth is the main issue as injuries mount....As a Utah fan, I watched the Utes go from a 9 win team usually in the MWC to a
.500 team in the Pac-12. They're finally adjusting to the move up now after 4 or 5 years.....

 "bobcat" That's great!

Having Gene Taylor at Iowa City doesn't hurt either; however, after 2016, it could be very slim pickens for NDSU AD Larson if the Bison continue their success. However, if NDSU slumps, (someone define "slumps").... things could change. Maybe even to the point where msu would return a game. Wishful thinking I know.

The way Coach Ron Ash and Co. ducked UNDSU was an embarrassment to the entire State of Montana. I am very grateful that the Ace has been called in to clean up the mess via this home/home to host our plump brothers from the far east. The Griz and T-Buffs, alike, will play anyone, anytime, anywhere. Our neighbors from the near east have some learnin' to do when it comes to that principle.

I fully expect UNDSU to slump. But I don't expect them to fall so far that they have to schedule home and home with DIIs

They might, but State U would likely break the commitment. Because commitment is a one-way street.

“I want to get on my soap box for a minute since I have the stage and talk about the word commitment,” Ash said. "This can’t just be a one-way street." "As coaches and educators of the youth of America, we need to teach these young men that a commitment is a commitment." "They need to stick to their commitment if they make one."

Teach on, Ron.

When coach Ron Ash retires from coaching, he's got a great career ahead as an orator.

If that's what he's committed to.....
