It would also take a real man to acknowledge that there were many more factors and reasons for the buyout other than being scared or being pussies.

After talking with some real cat fans who don't sit around and drink the Ash-aid all day long, they said they were lucky to break even after that mess. To make it worse, NDSU AD used words like "stunned, really disappointed, really angry, don't understand it" as well. Folks also forget it wasn't the first time the Cats did it to the Bison. They bailed and bought them out in 2007 as well. This was the second time!
I don't have the exact economic numbers on it but they were similar to this:
NDSU buyout: 100k
Bring in MonMouth: 200k
Travel to SMU: 100k
Total expense: 400k
Play SMU: 300k
Extra home game: 150k
Total Income: 450k
So according to these fellas who I would trust more than most, they pretty much broke even. I know my buddies were embarrassed about the decision to bail on NDSU and didn't defend it in the least. They said Fields and Ash were pussies. Funny how others have a defensive take on it.
Wait, they Bobcatted the Bizon in 2007 as well? If true, forget about the modular stadium, shit pond, annual collapses, lil' bro mentality/reality, C.A.T.S., thinking the Griz game is a rivalry, Ms on the helmet, and coach who publicly blames players for losses. This habit of Bobcatting is, by far, the most embarrassing thing about the program at State U. How could one continue to be a fan? I'm being dead serious.
Oh yea....it's all right here too:

I think 2003. Since then, I think UM is 0-3 against FBS opponents. 2005, 2006, and 2011.

In the FCS/FBS and D1/D1AA era, does Montana have any wins over P5 conference teams?

I would rather be associated with a fan base and university that is optimistic, dreams and pushes for bigger goals and has progressively become a better academic and athletic institution with a growing enrollment than to be associated with a University with a declining enrollment, athletic program that has gone backwards, and has only received national attention lately in regards to their sexual assault problems.

It is pretty ironic that the University of Montana really started this. As the #3 ranked team in the FCS playing in the vaunted Washington Grizzly Stadium, they were unable to beat a non-playoff D2 NDSU team. There were a lot of naysayers who said NDSU could not compete in the FCS and would get killed by the Griz. In the 11 years that followed, NDSU has gone on to win 4 national championships and beat 8 FBS teams. I think the Big 12 dreams are unrealistic at this point, but I have no problem with the fan base looking to become bigger and better, which it has certainly continued to do, despite all the critics who say they can't.
It is kind of funny to see a fan base and program that has gone from the top of their conference and division as a whole, to becoming a mediocre program in the FCS and second fiddle to a directional school playing in a glorified high school stadium and has watched an old conference mate, Boise State, go on to become a very good FBS program. Instead of trying to lift up your own program, you resort to ridiculing any program that is more successful and resorting to meth and fat jokes as a way of making yourself feel better about UM's mediocrity and lack of vision. Sad deal.

Glad you enjoyed the story and that you are thankful for me coming onto this site. Maybe I will try to round up a sheep or two for you as I pass through Eastern Montana and you can provide my fat gut with tons of food. Afterwards we can sing Kumbaya together and you can tell me stories of how awesome your football stadium is.
