Favorite Griz Player of alltime

This one is easy for me... Craig Ochs for sure. I was in either third or fourth grade when Craig transferred from Colorado to UM and he immediately became my favorite player on the team. At the time my class was supposed to do a project on our heroes. My mom helped me to get a hold of him and he did a phone interview with me that week. I was also in Cub Scouts at the time and he took time out of his schedule to come speak to our pack. Later when I "graduated" from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts he sent me a congratulations note that I still have. Up until the time he graduated and even after he came back as a coach our family was able to keep in contact with him. I really just have always thought he embodied everything good about being an athlete, role model, and especially a Griz.

NBA draft
1978 / Round: 1 / Pick: 4th overall

4× NBA All-Star (1980–1982, 1985)
2× NBA All-Defensive First Team (1980–1981)
3× NBA steals leader (1980, 1983, 1985)
NBA assists leader (1980)

I know we are in the football section... but this video is a must watch. Sad part is there is not much UM video. But if you watch these highlights, it was the same way he played at UM.

BTW he was the 4th pick in the first round.

Easily....Magic Johnson once said Michael Ray was the only player he feared. Isaiah Thomas said something similar. I can't remember the exact statements. With no drug problem he is probably mentioned in the same breath as Magic, Bird, Dr J from that era.

Adam Boomer and DP were camp councilors, so soft spot for them. Tuff, Decoite, MM, DD, Colt, Chase, Wags, and that article about Ellis pushed him way up the list.. So many GREATS

Skyla Sisco was fun and that was right when I started going to Lady Griz games with my Uncle and Brother

Anthony Johnson and Will Cherry

Biermann and Colt Anderson for me, two guys that played with attitude and didn't give a shit.

Hard to not add Reynolds to that list as well, class C guy that punished the BSC.

JD Quinn best trash talker

You see when he gave the JMU defender the middle finger in the early part of the game? Just got done pushing the guy off Bergquist as the defender was doing that usual stand over someone shit. Then, when Quinn is in the huddle, you can see he is looking right at the guy and gives him the middle finger like a kid in high school trying not to get caught. The subtle hand to the facemask move. Was true DOLA.

This is an impossible list, but I'm surprised no one has mentioned Lavander Segars. The whole stadium used to chant LV. I'm still puzzled how he didn't get a returner try in the league.

you have got to be kidding!

No, you're right. Sitting in jail, as two trials don't convict you.. then going back to your college and having a great year (not playing safety at Montana before).. then getting drafted and sticking in the league. Starting at points and challenging for a starting job? what a chump
