EG has a good point though. Who gives a shit if we beat one of our sub 300 rpi conference foes? It prepares
The Griz for nothing. There are only a handful of teams that "bring it". I like the preseason home games, just for novelty, and Weber (not coming), EWU and the Cats (because it's funny that they suck). But really. Wouldnt it mean more if there was some competency in our league?
Did you happen to check out the quality of our home football schedule in 2014?
Central Washington
South Dakota
Northern Colorado
UC Davis
Sacramento State
Montana State
San Diego
Didn't stop the Griz from filling the stadium each week...
Griz didn't fill the stadium. Griz fans did. Didn't WGS open in late 1987? Ironically, the biggest dip in BB attendance was 1987.....and somewhat permanent from that year forward. Maybe WGS itself is a bigger reason for the change in BB attendance since it opened than we think.
The rise in Griz football and WaGriz may have affected the disposable income for many as a Griz family commits resources to the fall sport instead and maybe could not do both. But it's apples and oranges. There are only about six opportunities to see a home FB game. The game lasts around 3 hours but It's a party that lasts all day or even two days for lots of us. A ticket is 35-50 bucks. Steal.
Basketball is late in the evening, on a Thursday, in the winter, lasts maybe 2 hours with no real pre game party or post game gathering. It's $20 (or is it $25 now?). I love Griz hoops but they have 15 or so home games and I'm not driving over for all of em. Now for this year and the next severaI I have kids playing thurs-sat highschool hoops to so I can't get over except for pre-season and late season. But even before they got that age we picked and chose the better games and made 4-5 a year and of course the conference tourney.
Now why the town of Missoula doesn't represent better I have no idea. Bunch of slackers I say. And the students? Who knows.
Maybe they are just like these lazy ass Ivy Leaguers:
