Fall Camp Day-4 Observations

Question: Have any of the Bobcat fans who post here got an opinion on how good the transfer QB from NC-State is looking in practice? Do you think he will win the starting job?

Apparently Cat fans are trying to fly under the radar these days! Haven’t seen much of them on here lately. On little brothers fan sight they are stating he is the obvious choice at QB this year. Better size, better mechanics and he has played at the next tier up. (Paraphrasing). I think the Cat offense will be productive based on their run game. Their receivers are young and I don’t think their QB (regardless who it is) will have many dependable targets. They could end up being fairly one dimensional. Their defense could be the Achilles heel. Don’t forget that their head coach appears to have the motivational prowess of a mushroom in the dark. A couple of losses and things could go downhill very quickly. Pitchforks and torches people.

The Griz QB situation demonstrates how tough it is to find a two or three year starter. I hope Humphrey comes into his own this year. Surprises me that there is such a gap after Humphrey and if he gets hurt things could really interesting. I suspect most programs find themselves in a similar situation. The transfer portal is making things really difficult.

I'm not sure there is much of a gap. Brown will push Humphrey for the starting job all year. Competition is good for all.

Their FBS drop-down QB had a very poor passing percentage while playing at North Carolina State. I read where his completion percentage was around 55%. That is why he was demoted as the starter, and probably why he transferred. I think he is a good runner, however.

He's looking pretty good, earned the nod for QB1 coming out of Spring and holding onto that so far in camp. Bauman is currently #2 and Rovig #3. Keep in mind Rovig was the starter in 2019 where he led the Cats to the semi's, 4th best team in the country, and he's improved several aspects of his game since then. The fact that he's now #3 on the depth chart probably tells you that the Cats will be pretty good at QB in 2021 and certainly better than 2019. One last point to correct something you posted a couple posts up. Vigen didn't bring in a drop down because there wasn't an adequate Big Sky QB on the roster (See above, you don't get to the #4 team in the FCS without being adequate... he is not flashy but manages the game well, as you're hoping you have with Cam per your comment above). He was brought in because you're obviously always trying to bring in competition and improve at every position. Also, I don't think it's a secret that Vigen wants a true dual threat QB. I think he feels it's probably necessary to get the Cats over the hump and get from #4 to #1.

I saw that Troy is now only going to be playing middle linebacker. Thought outside would be a more natural fit because of his size, speed and ability to cover and also blitz. I think with his injuries (surgery on hand and knees, the high ankle sprain) he collected as their qb, he would have a better chance of staying healthy on the outside rather then in the middle. For the Griz’s sake I’m happy he is no longer qb. The guy single handedly killed us on offense.

I guess this should quell all those pesky rumors that he is transferring to Boise State because of his connection to Kane ioane, or that his dad his mad at msu for running his kid into the ground....

Do you like him at middle backer? I think outside or strong safety to replace konkle would be better for him. And I pretty sure his dad was actually mad for overusing him though.

I had heard a couple of years ago that Troy would have signed with The Griz in a heartbeat, but Stitt did not actively recruit him, and only offered him late in the recruiting process, while the Cats were all over him early-on. Is that true, or just an urban legend. If it is true, just another gift from Stitt, who never focused on defense from the get-go.

I am going to try to attend the fall practice on Monday. I'll provide any observations on Tuesday. Hooked, are you gonna be there? Brint, are you also going to be there? If so, come over and say hello. I have never met you Hooked, so I wouldn't be able to identify you. But, if you're there, just look for the guy scratching his ass.

After the shit you pulled (pun intended) on Brint?

Maybe it’s time for a Memory Care Facility?

Brint, Hooked; perhaps for obvious reasons, I'd go with with a gentlemanly "nod of the head" unless you're a thrill-seeker, then an elbow bump, if you take Steve up on his suggestion.

Unfortunately I can’t make it Monday. I have to get out that way to catch a couple hopefully soon. I’m hearing we are in a good place and hopes are very high for a run.

Some us are mature enough to let by-gones be by-gones. Obviously you don't fit that category.

Payton. Payton, I'm being bullied. Steve is being mean again. Payton, we need a new rule. Payton?

I caught 15 min of practice last week, hopefully can see a little more this coming week. I do think the coaching staff would generally prefer most detailed practice info stays off the message boards, if possible.

That's how remember it Brint. Blabbing blabbermouths got everyone kicked out and practices closed the last time. Remember Papa Bear's motto: Vanilla, vanilla, vanilla....
