Faces on Montana football Mt Rushmore?

Don Read (first national title for the Griz)
Dave Dickenson (Only Walter Payton Winner we've had)
Jack Swarthout (First long-term winning coach with 2 Camiela bowl apperances)
Tim Hauck (Probably the best #37 or at least most recognizable one to date)

------
Alternates that I'd consider would be:

- Joe Glenn, only other NC winner, but such a short tenure here
- Kraig Paulson, started the #37 tradition, coached in 5 NC games for the Griz
- Bobby Hauck, hard to argue with in-conference dominance, but no NC wins
- Kroy Biermann, Only Buck Buchanan winner we've had

If we are talking strictly players i would say.
Dickenson-Best Griz player of all time
Mariani- Best WR and returner of Alltime
Yohance- Best RB in Griz history
Huntzberger, Hauck, Anderson, Biermann tie for best def players all time.
Huntz led his team to a title and received a vote for the heisman, so i give him a slight edge a the last spot.

I loved Yo also but just not sure he was best ever. Most yards all time (only a few ahead of Chase) but there are two former Griz in the NFL in Hilliard and Reynolds.

They counted Reynolds' playoff stats and didn't count Yo's, FWIW.

Also, Mariani isn't in the top 2 for all-time best Griz receivers.

Hauck should be on there without a doubt.

Maybe on the backside of Rushmore......................

My guess is he means Tim Hauck and yes he should be along with Read, Dickenson and Mariani. That covers three eras, coaching, offense, defense and special teams.

You'd have to have a large mountain for all the faces. I nominate the south face of Mt. Baldy.

No, just like the original Rushmore there are only a few deserving faces Montana has less than 5 that even need be considered.

Only because Dennehy wasn't smart enough to start Yo as a frosh. If he had, Yo's records at UM would never be broken.

Matt Wells > Mariani

Its not even debateable

Yup. I still think the greatest debate I have is between Douglass and Wells. I give the nod to Douglass every time even though I have a Wells jersey and he was the lead receiver for the 95 'ship.

Different era but have to mention Ray Bauer. Drafted by the Packers in early 50's.

Douglass is far and away the best receiver ever at UM.

I was just pointing out that Mariani at best is a distant third

Any Mount Rushmore without "Wild" Bill Kelly on it is a joke. The dude was an all-american when we played in what is now the Pac-12. He played 10 years in the NFL. Was the MVP in the East-West Shrine game when it was the only all-star game. If we had him at QB the last three years we would have three rings...Was recruited HARD by Knute Rockne at ND, choose the home town Griz instead.

I hate agreeing with Alpha, makes me have to take a shower afterwards.

Joe Douglass > Marc Mariani

Marc in 2009 with 15 games to his credit edged out what Douglass did in 1996 by 10 yards. The difference? Douglass's numbers only counted for the regular season, his 1469 receiving came in the regular season only (11 games), while Marc's 1479 came in the regular and post-season.

Mike Erhardt and Raul Pacheco don't get a lot of love but I'd put them right up there behind Douglass/Wells/Mariani.

Watkins, Farris and Molden were no slouches either.

If "Wild" Bill Kelly isn't on it then don't build it.
