Faces on Montana football Mt Rushmore?

I find it odd that people vote for colt but not the better secondary player in the same era of trumaine... Seems quite odd. I mean... Montana hasn't had as good of a football player as trumaine in the lasts 8 or 9 years. I wouldn't put him on Rushmore but to nominate colt and not trumaine seems odd
Take your racist BS somewhere else you bigoted troll.

The reason nobody votes for TJ is because he was very over hyped and over rated. Off the field he was an incredible POS.

Come into the 21st century you racist prick that shit dont fly around here.

I can't tell if trolling or serious...

I do believe this fella was the highest draftest Griz ever... I think he was referred to as "Oak". The only story I remember about him was that he would "run the M" twice each day after practice. Anybody else have any memories of this college OT turned pro DT?

And this big ol' defensive tackle had a long NFL career. I think Mike is a native Montanan.

Well I haven't been around nearly as long as a lot of you but who do you think would be on it?
Cole Bergquist?
Lex Hilliard?
Marc Mariani?

Really, those 3? Love them all but if you think Bergquist was anywhere near the top 5 MT QBs you're crazy.

While I completely understand your point, one could make the argument that CB is damn close to a top 5 UM QB. This is a guy who threw for over 7500 yards, had 58 TDs and only 23 picks, had QB ratings of 141 and 153 his final two years, and led his team to a semi-final road victory over the #1 team on the way to a title game.

Is he DD or BY? No, but those are pretty damn impressive numbers.
i have been around since teh mid 90s adn i would put him in the top 5...Good size, strong arm, very atheletic...We for sure havent had one as good as him since he left....JJ could have been if he played a few more years. Cole did alot of great things, watch his highlight reel on youtube if you dont remember just how good he was for us in 07 and 08! you will be very impressed. He was a gamer, not afraid to try and run over players or go up top flying into the endzone!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BODn6yw6g6k" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; here is the link, i love this video and cole is seriously under rated by alot of griz fans. I have quite a few top all time griz moments most are football..some are basketball...but one of them without a doubt is when the young man from San clement CA led us into JMU and handed those fuckers a loss!

There is only one Griz player in the college hall of fame... He then went to New York and played with red grange... Again, if Wild Bill Kelly is not on the Grizmore, then end this thread

The presidents on Mt. Rushmore represent major turning points in the development of the country, namely:

Washington - foundation
Jefferson - expansion
Lincoln - preservation
Roosevelt - unification

If there was a similar monument to Griz football it would have to be along those themes. You could say that modern era Griz football's foundation lies in the contribution of Dennis Washington, so go from there.

Don Read expanded it, Joe Glenn preserved it, Bobby Hauck unified it and then finally if there is room for a 5th head-

Royce Engstrom - fornification

The last QB to bring home a NC is on anybody's list?

...intersting.

That's what I thought too. He may not have been the most impressive and certainly divided Griz fans, but I can tell you that this Cat fan is undoubtedly impressed with anyone who can pull off a national championship. It is just so damn hard to do, especially now since it has been 12 years since the Griz' last. But John Edwards found a way to win, a quality that sometimes gets lost in stats and "wow" plays.

Exactly. Trumaine was an excellent player and a shut down player as far as FCS talent goes, but he wasn't better than Colt. Colt does more with less and he is a class act while he does it. We all know TJ's gangster style is perfect for St. Louis, but that d-bag is going to have to figure his life out after football. Does he think it will be handed to him? Probably.

I see Trumaine as the reincarnation of Joey Thomas. Incrdible talent, bad attitude, and doomed to a short NFL career because of it. The NFL values attitude and humility these days, especially a disciplinarian like Jeff Fischer, so I'll be the first one to clap when TJ gets the stomped to the curb. I wonder how ironic that will feel for him.

You're all so biased...

I guarentee tru will have a better career than colt

1.Papa Bear
2.Dave Dickenson
3.Kroy Bierman
4. Some old dude that I don't know about, or Jason Crebo...best linebacker to ever play in a Griz uni.

Tim Hauck and Dave Dickenson are obvious. I assume many posters are younger, and don't remember how incredible Hauck was in a Griz uniform.

Don Read needs to be there as well.

I like the Bill Kelly argument for the 4th spot, just because outside of the obvious first three, there are lot of more recent players who could be on it, so may as well go back in time.

Or, Denny Washington, as already noted, who stepped up big time and got the Griz out of Dornblaser.

Man, this one is tough. If we go players only, the only lock is DD. After that, its a toss up. I like the idea of Tim Hauck, but if we are going with importance to the program and its growth, prosperity, etc., you would have to look at a couple of others just at safety. Blaine McElmurray (sp?), Vinnie Huntsberger, Dave DeCoite, Colt, Shann, all fantastic players and worth consideration. But I think Hauck gets the nod because of not only his NFL success, but also what he has brought from the coaching side.

So that means I have DD and Tim Hauck. Where to go from there? I like the Joe Douglass argument. Very talented, NFL experience, game changer (think the original Marc Mariani). But at WR, you could also look at Matt Wells, Mariani, Jimmy Farris, Etu Molden, etc. I think that Douglass gets the nod for the 3rd spot...

And the final piece. I would love to put a running back here, Lex and Chase were great but if we are going to consider a back I think it would have to go to Yohance Humphrey. Yo was the reason John Edwards won a title (and the 2001 D was siiiiick!) But I don't know if he did enough to make it on Griz Rushmore. Well, I should rephrase that. He did enough, but there are too many other canidates out there for me. This last spot has to go to Wild Bill. The man, the myth, the legend. He was our first big name, and he deserves a spot.

So there you have it folks. This little rant killed 15 minutes of my work day, thank you for that.

Good post, but not sure how you can mention Dave Decoite and not Trey Young in that group of Safties. I definitely agree with Joe Douglass on there, he was dominant and people tend to forget what a great punt returner he was. I'll put Yo slightly ahead of Chase,

I'll go with this list
Dickenson, Yo, Tru, Don Read, Scott Gragg, ALPHA
