Expectations

5 years is enough time. We've seen the results. Why continue this experiment in mediocrity?

I think the covid pause makes it difficult to call it 5, when it is really only 4 seasons, of which the one prior and after were 10 wins. I am not excited by this season, but I am wondering if Bobby is more the 7 win coach of this year or the 10 win coach of the previous 2 full seasons.

It legitimately makes me sad to this level of excuses and mental gymnastics from Griz fans. If rationalization makes you feel better so be it...

Yeah, actual results are a tough thing for many Griz fans living in the past to accept. Time to get past 2009 and realize that the landscape of college football, BSC football, has caught up, and in some instances, has passed UM over the last 14 years.

Oh you want to talk actual results? How about no wins against teams with winning records this season? How about no conference titles in 5 years? How about 1-4 versus the Cats while they become legit Natty contenders?

You have no leg to stand on talking about "actual results".

Let's see, Bobby has two 10 win seasons in his last 3. When was the last time that happened? This year was a letdown, but outside of the Cat game, they weren't that far off of winning more. I am willing to see how things go next year, and see if they are closer to 7 or 10. Only Griz fans think they are more than mediocre anymore. But for the record, I think Bobby has to make some adjustments to have more success.

Yup, 2 top 8 seasons followed by probably a top 20, is certainly in the ball park. I agree this season is disappointing. Lucking into the playoffs would be a bonus.

Do teams with combined 14 53 records get into the playoffs? If not tough for Griz to find a team they can beat.........but maybe at "the mecca" against a team that's not Montana Tough!!

I get people aren't happy with today, but maybe in the big picture, your expectations are based on the past and not so much the now. The Griz haven't been in the Championship in over a decade and have pretty much missed the playoffs as often as being in them since. I am not saying don't be pissed, but Bobby has literally led them to (2) of the best seasons they have had since he left in 2019 and 2021.

My expectations were set by some of Booby’s flowery comments in fall camp about how awesome this group was and all that. Either he’s a horrible judge of talent or….he’s a horrible judge od talent.

And colossal ass kickings by our in-state rival in 2 out of the last 3 seasons. I love the taste of success!!

Could you put that in English?

The expectations were not only Griz fans. Were they not picked as pre-season #1 by coaches and media? Sac was 2-9 the season before Taylor. He arrives and they have not lost a conference game. Hell, Eck arrives in Moscow and almost makes the playoffs with Petrino’s players.

With a watered down FCS it should be quarter finals every year at the VERY LEAST. For us to go further we need to win Big Sky titles and get home field. That’s how you sustain success year after year that Griz Nation is used to. However that conference success seems to be escaping this program that last 10 years.

Well, Bobby made the playoffs with Stitt recruits...let that sink in.

If anyone is living in the past it appears to be you with your support of how Bobby has done this go around. Expectations for this year were based off of this year's players, preseason rankings, and early season success and then the staff took that and shat it down both legs with their scheme, not utilizing personnel appropriately, etc. I don't think we are any better of a team right now under Bobby then we may have been under Stitt five years later but, who knows it's all speculation anyways

Griz are in exactly the same place...praying for a playoff birth.

Allow me to retort. Hauck has an abysmal record against the Bobcats. Our line play has been mediocre to putrid every year since he came back. Player morale seems shitty. Our playoff record has been pedestrian. We are now a bubble team, probably not deserving of getting in. It’s the same damn thing every year - the OC who calls a pass play with 1st and goal on the 1 foot line, followed by a RPO. What is Ostmo for, the dive on 3rd and 8? Our staff reminds me of the Oakland scout staff in Moneyball.

Teams like 1-10 Idaho State, 3-8 EWU, 4-7 NW State (lost 66-7 today!), 3-8 South Dakota (lost 55-14 today!), 1-9 Cal Poly, 2-9 Indiana State, 4-6 Portland State. Do those kind of teams make the playoffs? Can we play one of them and bring them to the mecca of fcs football and have Riley hyperventilate about it all week?

Expectations need to reflect reality 💯 Riley, hauck, and all the Griz homer pundits need to cool it with all the talk of “depth” “championship caliber” and the like. Also, I’m of the opinion that the current recruiting strategy is flawed and should be revised. Offensive scheme also needs some work. Against teams with a average to above average defense this offense is shit. I tried telling hoopsfan that and got the “you never played the game” speech well I think I was proven right today by another piss poor offensive performance.
If you really think it was our offensive performance that led to such a dominant loss today, I'm with PR. The strength of our team has been our run defense and they ran through us like we weren't there. Men against boys. Griz were not ready to play.
