Whoops! Missed the 2nd post. Those damn Random and Other Sports folders. I don't check those too often or closely. This belongs in the Griz Basketball section, IMO. It has a direct effect on the basketball program.

But now it is official and he can't come back. I still can't believe he said that he would "definitely" be back for his junior year.

At the end of a disappointing season with all the emotion, and being a team player like RS is, I can see him saying that, and he probably meant it too, until people told him he was likely a 1st round pick and the money that come with that. I am happy for him, but it was a great challenge for the Griz playing him, and fun to watch.

Oh man, he was incredible. I haven't seen a smoother, more efficient offensive player. Not the best player, but perfect for the NBA.

I can understand why he would hope to come back, but he had to have thought about the NBA more than a few times. I don't think anybody took him too serious at the time anyway.

The fact that EWU was able to have him on the roster for 2 years is quite a bit for a Big Sky team to hope for these days. Too bad that they couldn't hold on to Giacoletti for a couple more years and keep a solid squad around Stuckey.

I just gotta say - 1,438 points in two years!!! He would have approached 3,000 points in his career. There are only 6 players in the history of the NCAA to have done that.

I would caution anyone to think he is going to be an instant success in the NBA though, he will no longer enjoy some of the physical advantages he had in the BSC.The adjustment period for most is 2-3 years. Remember can't miss Oregon star Luke Jackson? He was the 10th pick in the 1st round and is now a developmental D league player lucky to get a 10 day contract. I think Stuckey will succeed, but not overnight.

I don't think Stuckey and Jackson are in the same league, GB.

Jackson was the 10th pick in the 1st round, Stuckey hasn't even been picked yet. Jackson was a stud in college in a much better program than EWU, playing against far superior competition. My only point is there is no guarantee. There are a LOT of other first rounders who never made it in the NBA. I think Stuckey has a legit shot, I am just a realist because I have seen the hyped players fail nearly as often as they succeed.

Let's say I give you Jackson. Then explain why these guys who were all drafted between 3 and 6 in the 1st round never made it. They had far more hype than Stuckey.

Robert Traylor, Chris Washburn, Sharone Wright, Russell Cross, Mel Turpin, Michael Olowakandi (sp) Danny Ferry, Strmillle Swift, the list goes on and on. Kwame Brown was hand picked by Michael Jordan, and look where he is. :twocents:

I think you just answered your own question. The hype was unrealistic. Nobody outside of the Pacific Northwest knows who Stuckey is. But they will, very soon. And you're right, he may not have immediate success, but I think he'll be a star in the NBA.

How can a star in the NBA never even make the BSC title game? It's the freakin big sky.

With that logic, Kobe Bryant should be a nobody. But his offensive game is unbelievable and people love to watch players put the ball in the basket.

That was what is referred to as a "rhetorical question".

The Kandi Man isn't Klanq Fu, but he's still holding his own. Is he as good as promised? Not by a long shot. But a lot of it (particularly in LA) had to do with stupid schemes. He was out around the arc more than any center outside of Hakeem and the Admiral have any business being there. Any moron will tell you that you play your center down low, dump it in to him, let him get his hooks and his dunks until the defense collapses, and then have him kick it out for the three. LA didn't do that. Minnesota didn't do that. I haven't seen him with Boston, so I don't know about that.

I've heard stuff about his attitude. All I can tell you is that when we were at UOP together in '95, he was one of the nicest guys around. Not that we associated much. It was just seeing him around campus. Fixing whatever his problem is would completely destroy the balance of power in the Big West: bring in Bob Thomason as his head coach and Adam Jacobsen as his point guard. Those were the glory days of UOP hoops, and they can resurrect it in the NBA. But for UOP's sake, I hope it never happens, because Thomason is the best men's coach ever, and only has to deal with Sherri Murrell as the best ever, IMNSHO.
