We may be 5 and 5 but we have THE PLACE to visit and BS. You other teams chat on our board because we are the leaders in the League. All others follow us and attempt to be like us.

Yes, I hope old Eastern Washington wins the entire world cup because they are the best team in our league at this point. NAU has the best running back. msu does have a few players but fall short because they choke in tough games. Poly is tough and deserves what they have.
Poly is overrated, they will lose to NAU

This thread is full of so much Nguyen.

Again - what I'm saying is that EWU isn't as good as their record or ranking. I'll be surprised if EWU goes 8-3. I could easily see 7-4 after Sac St, SUU, and Cal Poly.

I'm putting it down on eGriz. Revive it in December if I'm wrong. I'll eat crow if wrong.

Bump. :)

EWU is good. The escaped against the Griz and they know it. Moo U was overrated all year and escaped with several wins including in Missoula, but their luck ran out last night. EWU was the best team in the Sky this season, cats not nearly as good as their record, Griz not as bad as theirs. Thats why they play the game. EWU-SHS will be fun to watch.

I agree with everything in your post. I don't think UM was anywhere near as bad as their record indicated this year, I just think there's coaching issues and the off the field stuff couldn't have helped. And yes, we definitely got away with one at home this year, but IMO that game is basically going to be close 9/10 times regardless of record.

MSU was decent but IMO played a soft schedule without beating any playoff-bound teams, and then of course there's the issue of not being able to win playoff games. I thought Cal Poly was a much better team and under-rated the majority of the season. They just got a damn tough opening round draw.

My sentiments as well.

It's hard to tell what you're gonna get in an Eastern game. I have no idea what to expect next week with Sam Houston State.
I don't either but I expect a high scoring game with a lot of big, long yardage plays. I was considering driving down to Cheney after skiing at Schweitzer on Friday and catching that night game. I wonder if there will be any available tickets for it when I stop by the ticket office on Friday

Pretty sure its a Saturday day game. Based on the empty seats I saw against ISU, its a pretty safe bet you'll be able to get walk up tickets on game day.

Which brings up another subject that some of the eag fans might be able to address....why are they planning on increasing seating capacity to +17k? Is there enough demand for another 9k seats? If not, your game atmosphere may become reminiscent of the old Joe Albi Stadium days. While it was technically your home field, you had no advantage or game day atmosphere as there were too many empty seats in that cavernous venue.

I think Eastern would certainly draw better if the stadium was better. No one wants to sit in our cheap seats on the visitor side. The conditions are appalling, made even worse by the wind when it gets cold. Our stadium "seats" 8,600, but really only seats about 7,500 with any kind of reasonability.

There is a lot more buzz around the program now. Even when we weren't real good, we could put 10,000+ into Albi 10 years ago. Cheney is growing, and Eastern is planning a large increase in enrollment over the enxt 5 years (adding about 5,000 students). Plus, the iron is hot, probably a good time to strike.

That is all.

After watching two of their last three games, they have been lucky and will be exposed. Both the Cats & Griz are better than this team this year.

Sour grapes make really shitty wine...

Snarky cliches make really shitty forum content...

Keep bumping this thread EWU fans. You are certainly welcome to keep this on the first page of eGriz all you would like.

Yep - EWU has stayed alive the longest in the playoffs of any Big Sky team. Thus, by all measurable accounts - they were the best team in the Big Sky this year. Congrats.

First of all, I find this thread amusing. Second I wish EWU the best in the playoffs as the last Big Sky team standing.

Now to the nitty gritty. Why do EWU fans troll? Are you kidding me? I tried to find a Eastern forum yesterday to maybe get a score and a game thread. They don't have diddly. The one offical one I found had about ten posters on it and lame ones at that. Therefore it is my opinion that since they don't really have a forum of their own they need to find one that actually has people using it. I say welcome. You really didn't raise the IQ on this board but on average you didn't really lower it either.

To the topic of EWU filling a 17,000 seat stadium. Who knows, maybe build it and they will come? On the plus side they do have Spokane nearby. On the minus side, Cheny is, what, 7 or 8,000 people at most? Minus #2 Gonzaga in Spokane. Minus #3 Pullman and WSU are about 50 miles south. I say build the stadium, you will finally be able to seat all of the Griz fans who want to come for the game.

By the way, I just recently spent a couple of weeks staying at the Holiday Inn in Cheny because I had some business in the area. Nice little town, reminds me of Townsend with a college but no good substitute for the Commercial Hotel and Bar.

Two years ago, the stadium had 4,000 people at a quarterfinal game against North Dakota State. This year, we had over 7,500 but was sold out two days before the game. (Playoff attendance is never accurate) Will we fill up an 18,000+ seat stadium? Yeah, if we keep winning and have an attractive place for fans to attend! Metal high school bleachers don't really cut it right now...

Grizinmyyard... In address to some of your comments, Cheney has a population of around 10,000 not counting the students. With school in session, it's close to 20,000. We do have a lot of Gonzaga and Washington State alumni in town which does draw away from the EWU fan base, but it's improved leaps and bounds from what it was even 2-3 years ago. Glad you had a nice stay in Cheney, I love this town! My wife works at the Holiday Inn and she mentioned she had some Griz fans staying at the hotel..must have been you! :thumb:

Good Luck to the Eagles with SH, they need a thrashing....i enjoyed watching the game yesterday....looking forward to the game on saturday/or friday.......Griz first, Montana teams second and Big Sky third.....down to my last stance.......

eagle2010 First sorry about leaving the last e out of Cheney. How do you prounounce it anyway? I hung at the Longbar a couple 3 times and they prounounce it shanee. I always thought it was chainey. So again sorry about the spelling.

I seriously doubt that the town is 10,000 but if you say so. Ok.

About the stadium again, I think it is great that you are going to build it. It will be good for the Big Sky if it happens. I talked to some of your dyed in red people at the aforementioned Longbar who were good folks. Some were even officially associated with the university. We agreed that the UM/EWU rivialry is a good thing. There was civilty all around and we bought each other drinks. I was wearing a Griz hat at the time and no blood was shed, which tells me something.

The most impressive thing I saw at the Holiday Inn was the Portland Pilot women's bball team at the breakfast buffett the day I left town. They were tall. I saw later your gals whupped them by a bunch so assume you will have a good team again this year. Finally, I think I know who your wife is. She was the cutest one working there, right?

This...and it is unfortunate. Sh1t Hole State University is the only school I hate worse than ewu.

All that I can go off of is the Census which says 10,643 and the city website says 10,800 permanent residents. Glad you had some good experiences while in town, there is a lot of great people in this community! Eastern and Montana have developed a great rivalry in the past few years and I'm sure that will continue for many more years to come.

Yes, my wife was certainly the cutest one there! That's why I married her ;)

Who cares who we played, we are still playing, I'll take that any day of the week...

and...regarding our stadium, does it need upgrades, definitely, do we have the fan support, probably not yet, but we are moving in the right direction. Its already been discussed, but we are far from the only show in town. We can compare stadium's and fan bases all day, big deal. EWU has a great team, and right now we are able to watch good playoff football for $10-$15 right now, thats a hell of a deal. Having such a small fan base isn't that bad of a thing anyways. The players sign autographs and take pictures with the Kids after every game, Coach Baldwin and staff come to the alumni tailgate before the game and greet all the fans. There is a lot more of a family atmosphere around EWU due to the small fan base, and small community (Cheney). Most EWU haters on this board have probably never been to an EWU game or actually given the program a chance.

For those of you that have been rooting for EWU in the playoffs, thanks, I've seen quite a few griz fans at the EWU games and hope to see some more this Saturday.

If EWU ever makes substantial improvements to their stadium, I agree that now would definitely be the time. Sh*t if nothing else, at least the folks that do attend games in Cheney can watch from a decent college stadium instead of a large average high school stadium! That in the long run (combined with winning) should continue to attract more and more people to their games!

About the SH vs EWU game, I think EWU should have the athletes to compete with SH unlike the kitties. More play makers on offense and overall better team speed than the kitties. The kitties were completely exposed and EWU will need to make some big stops on defense and usual big plays on offense to make a game out of this one IMO!
