Lady Griz shot lousy today.

Made 20 - 57 from the field for 35.1%, 5 - 18 from 3 pt line for 27.8%.

What lost the game for the Lady Griz was freethrow shooting making only 11 - 19 for 57.9%. Lady Griz normally shoot around 77% from the freethrow line, but today, they shot terrible. Mcleod and Guardipee went 0 for 5 from the line.

Edwards lead the Lady Griz with 20 points on 6 - 16 from the field, 2 of 8 from 3 pt line, 6 - 7 from freethrow line.

Mandy Morales scored 9 points on 2 - 10 from the field, 1 of 4 from 3 pt line, 2 assists, 6 turnovers, 2 steals, and 1 block. Second game where she made more turnovers than usual.

Sonya Rogers scored 6 points on 2 of 3 from the field, 2 - 2 from 3 pt line, 1 assist, and NO turnovers.

Johanna Clossen scored 6 points on 3 of 4 from the field.

Tamara Guardipee scored 6 points on 3 of 7 from the field.

Lady Griz was outrebounded 44 - 38. This and freethrow shooting are possibly the major reason for the loss.

At least the Lady Griz earned one road win this weekend, but I was expecting 2 road wins. And the Lady Griz should have won this game.

Lady Griz are back home next week against ISU and WSU.

It is always tough to get a good picture from the radio, but I am surprised the Lady Griz, trailing by 2, took a shot with 10+ seconds left - seems like you want to get it down to under 6 before you really look, just so they don't go down and score at the buzzer.

Maybe the way the Ladies were shooting they figured they would take any good look they got.

NAU beat Sac today, it is looking more and more like NAU will host the women's tourney. That should be pretty exciting for the 300 - 500 people who show up there, and look good on TV for the BSC.

If NAU played every game like they did against the Lady Griz, they would be undefeated now and win out the rest of the way.
But, since they had a let down against MSU, they aren't undefeated. NAU does have the more experienced players and likely not to be more consistent than the Lady Griz.

But, the Lady Griz have the talent but are heavily loaded on freshman and sophomores. Major reason for poor shooting is the youth on this team and Katie Edwards poor shooting. This is definitely Katie's worst season for shooting. That doesn't help the young players to well as it adds more pressure on them.

But, they are improving in other areas. When the shooting does come, this will be one very good team.

I look forward to two years from now when their juniors and seniors.

NAU better take advantage of this year. Because Mandy Morales will take the Lady Griz to a higher level next two or three years. Mandy could very well become the Lady Griz's equivalent to the Grizzlies Michael Ray Richardson. Mandy will have a strong supporting cast, too.

I'd like to add Sonya Rogers (one time Butte High Bulldog) into that Mandy Morales point. I think Sonya is a great ball handler and shooter, and going to be even greater down the road.

Don't forget about Dana Conway and Britney Lohman. I think these two ladies are going to be very good for the Lady Griz in the future.

No, we aren't forgetting anybody here including Lauren Beck who can shoot the ball very well.

Sonya, I owe you an apology. You earned your minutes tonight even with the Griz loss. Tough loss for the ladies ending a 14 game winning streak vs. EWU.
