No. Just..... no. EWU won't go 4-7. Not a chance in hell. They had a bad year last year, but Baldwin has built a hell of a program over there.
IMO Baldwin is pretty damn overrated. He won a NC early in his tenure at EWU, not entirely "his team". However he's let the defense slide massively over the last 3 years. Last year the offense wasn't even that great, good but not great. Throwing the ball in Kupp's direction is a pretty simple and effective gameplan for anyone.

They should be in the top 3-5 spots of the Big Sky next year, but that's not a huge accomplishment.
The guy that recruits guys like Kupp, Kaufman and Adams and beat UM four times in a row with inferior resources is "overrated."
Yeah. He is great at recruiting and developing the offensive side of the ball, but equally as shitty at doing the same on the defensive side. Pretty much a wash.

The difference between Ash and Baldwin? Baldwin was able to take advantage of Griz turmoil and Delaney's coaching lapses. Ash was not. I expect normalcy will begin to prevail again under Stitt, beginning with this year's 57-16 curb stomping.

Baldwin won the national championship in 2010 with a Transfer QB, then made it to the semi's in 2012 with a freshman QB. EWU was up 11 in the 4th qtr in 2013 national semis...Baldwin isn't just a one year wonder as the 2010 team was completely different than the 2012/2013 teams. On top of that Eastern lost Taiwan Jones, Brandon Kaufman, and Vernon Adams all a year early to the NFL or FBS within a 4 year stretch, just imagine how good EWU would have been had they stuck around for their senior years...

Eastern's defense has sucked for 3 years, thus the new OC, who came in last year and changed everything, changed the scheme, system, and started and played a TON of freshman. EWU will be much improved on D this year.

Also, don't sleep on EWU's qb's. The Freshman they brought in this year is very highly touted, Eastern had been recruiting him for years, and Hennessey will be a good one when all is said and done...

Brutal. High likelihood they start out 0-3....

Our non conf schedules are always brutal. I like the tough games, but its like this every freaking year, would be nice to see EWU schedule a couple FCS patsies every now and then...

You bring up a good point. I believe they're near the very bottom in the conference as far as budget goes, yet they're winners every year.

I, for one, applaud what the new OC has done to improve the EWU defense. With the new OC's guidance, that defensive unit might be something with which to reckon in 2016.

That new OC must be a defensive miracle worker.

Keeping the defense off the field wins championships ;)

I don't give a fuck how much the OC improves the EWU defense, I want to know how much money that fucker makes and how much he can make with incentives.

And how many offensive players he let go to make the defense better.

Rest assured that I know how much he makes, and you don't. It's over $1,000 per year. I will remind you of this at every turn. Even when you don't ask or make reference to it. Consider it done.

So true. An old friend who used to coach told me that scoring more points than the other team will win games, but he was full of shit. He never won a championship. In men's league softball. Ever. Dude just didn't have a football mind, I guess.

Especially then, bro, especially then. Chode's guy makes over $1K per year.

Baldwin wanted TG to come to EWU to be DC, or co-DC.

My understanding is everyone wanted TG for DC......except for Stitt......

Last year's 57-16 beat down was bad. Embarrassing. Ugly. Nearly erases the 4 game win streak EWU had going in to that game, at least in my mind. If not for one of those 4 wins in a row being in the playoffs...it probably would.

For those that believe EWU is trending downward...I believe you're wrong. But you're pretty much the same group that has said the downfall of EWU was coming nearly every year since 2010. With that said, EWU could have a very good team this season with an average record based on the brutal schedule.

I'm sorry, but good Christ Baldwin has to do something about that D. They won three games by miracles last year and still finished 6-5 (and yes I know the Griz had some close games too). Just not gonna win a lot of games giving up 61, 38, 50, 41, 41, 52, 57. That's a lot to ask of ANY offense, even EWU's.

50 to MSU, 52 to NAU, and 57 to UM were the killers. Oregon was always going to put up points. Easterns D will be better this year and the offense should be much improved as well.

It will be a better defense, because it really can't be worse (Pretty young last year, and a new scheme). Ball control will help a little, but there's still a lot work to do. Going 0-3 or 1-2 to start the season will not help. It's admirable that EWU is playing a brutal schedule, but not practical for the brackets! 7-4 will get them in, but it's a tough road!

I've hated our scheduling for years now. We either play 2 FBS games a year, or one FBS game and two top 15 FCS teams every year in non-conf, its ridiculous. Its one thing to schedule tough, its another to schedule yourselves with slim playoff chances every year. Its all about the $$$ and we don't have what the Montana schools have, or even close to it, in terms of support.

If you want to know how bad our scheduling is, in 2011, the year after we won the Title and had most of our team returning, we played 4 home games, 4 freaking home games...

We get Shaq Hill back on Offense next year and he's an all conference receiver and returner who we lost in the Oregon game, may be the fastest player in the big sky and will help coverages not just focus on Coop...Our D can only improve...hopefully...
