Beside firing Royce Engstrom, what should UM be doing, that they aren't already, to fix their declining enrollment problem?
How about "doing what they say they are trying" but actually "doing it" instead of sending out emails promoting MSU? How about stop lying to people? "Things are going just fine! Why, we are actually almost back to normal!" I've made some suggestions. I notice you haven't.

Is there actual evidence that they aren't doing what they say they're doing?
Jaysus. Do accelerating declines in freshman enrollment mean anything to you?

Don't you work for the university 75? What are you actually doing, to solve this particular problem?
Stop whining 75 and do something
I get generally the highest student evaluations. I am part of "that faculty" that gives UM a good reputation. Every day. When you do work hard for an institution, for over 30 years, and constantly outperform, and then you see a group of incompetents take over Main Hall, supported by non-contributors such as yourself, who claim that all the problems are "actually good" we are just "returning to normal!" you know, for sure, that people like you are part of the problem because you accept failure and do not demand excellence.

Thanks for your affirmation of failure.

So you're whining?

You are pathetic. Read Engstrom's statements. If you knew what "whining" was you would recognize it. But you don't so you are a natural part of those offices in Main Hall that think "this is a good thing!"

Thanks for playing. It's clear you have no stake in the game.

In other words, you do nothing, but those that do are "whiners." That is the pathetic escape of arm-chair quarterbacks.

Thanks for contributing nothing at all. You're the problem.

Actually declining freshman coming in ISN'T a problem. Declining Graduation rates would be a Bigger problem. Students who come in flunk out or quit while using state funded resources is a very big problem. Cutting back resources even if painful for what is largely a non tenured track staff is not a problem. Something is wrong with a 90%+ acceptance rate. Perhaps students realizing they have to pay those loans whether or NOT they graduate and not starting in the first place is a good thing.

Sage advice Ursa!

Love me some true grit... Can we be done talking about Engstrom on the football board.
As part of his first actions as President, Engstrom nearly upended the football program. Now, he may achieve the same result by a different approach, wrecking the whole University. The subject is of utmost importance to football and sports in general. Far more important than 90% of the threads, none of which you are forced to read.

As a parent of a current UM student, and a current high school student, I feel I have some insight to this. First, recruiting under King George was non-existent. Unless you were a foreign kid paying full tuition, or a felon in the environmental studies program, nobody cared. My older child went to UM despite never receiving a single piece of recruiting mail or communication.

On the other hand my younger child is much more sophisticated about college choices. Just a sophomore, after the pre-sat the offers are rolling in. MSU and NDSU were first in and aggressive. E-mails were personalized and timely, literature followed shortly.

UM was slow to react, and a dear john type letter in their email. But the printed material was better than MSU and anything UM has sent in 2 decades. Is it fixed?no. Is t better? Probably not. Progress? Yes.

That's just wrong.

Ironically, I think that the printed media is quickly becoming irrelevant. Kids use "Google" and that's where all the "news stories" blast out of the laptop screen; the self-destructive actions of Engstrom early on are still out there; the controversies are still out there, the rape nation is still out there. It was a bad time in the evolution of social media to have so much controversy, but now its permanent.
