How many South Dakota kids on South Dakota State?
How many California kids on Sac St?

Take the guys in state who are real difference makers and let the rest go elsewhere. You can consistently find better talent, that is ready to contribute sooner outside the state. Gillman is a great example.
The reality here is that most Montana kids that make these rosters are either PWO or partial scholarship players (on the lower side of funds provided). Montana kids have to earn their way on to the field in Bozeman and Missoula. Whenever either MSU or UM has poor performance, the same parts of the fanbase start to blame the Montana kids which is just hilarious to me when the real problem comes with recruitment and player development. Also most of UM's best players who are All-Big Sky or quality depth players are Montana kids and the others who see significant playing time aren't downgrades but actually value-adds. MSU has 44 Montana kids on its roster and 8 currently start out of the 22 starters on offense/defense. UM has 47 and 6-8 are starters on the 22. It isn't like only Montana kids are playing here guys.

You don’t get it?

Actually you don't get it.
So do the cats also have 20 guys who should be on NAIA rosters, or is it only our Montana guys that can't hack it?Spanky2 said:HelenaHandBasket said:Actually you don't get it.
We probably have 20 kids on the roster that should be at Mt. Tech or Rocky. Recruiting is one of our problems and this is one of the reasons.Far too much focus on recruiting Montana kids. Yes, sign the good ones, then spend the time recruiting elsewhere. A team loaded with 47 Montana kids is good for ticket sales, but not winning football games.

You’re another guy with his head in the sand. Are you saying all 47 kids are more talented than we can recruit elsewhere? I know you’re going to say the 47 kids are all walk ons when you know that isn’t true.uofmman1122 said:So do the cats also have 20 guys who should be on NAIA rosters, or is it only our Montana guys that can't hack it?Spanky2 said:We probably have 20 kids on the roster that should be at Mt. Also, I know I've asked you this every time you bring this up and you refuse to say, but can you name these 20 guys who are NAIA players?
Can you at least tell me are they starters? Are they depth guys? I also don't think we should only have Montana recruits on our team, so you can forgo your usual response there.
No, I'm clearly not saying that.Spanky2 said:You’re another guy with his head in the sand. Are you saying all 47 kids are more talented than we can recruit elsewhere? Your entire argument hinges on why it's not the case at MSU with the same number of Montana kids.Spanky2 said:I don’t care about msu. How many of the 47 are starters?
Spanky2 said:If they don’t start or back up a starter why do we want them. I guess to run out of the tunnel. How about 3 deep? How many. If you are aware of the team, you know one of our problems is recruiting. Maybe you have a relative that you watch run out of the tunnel?
Spanky2 said:Answer my question. How many of the 47 are starters? I rest my case.
What does this even mean? A lot of the starters from MT weren't starters last year, but were still on the team. Should we have kicked them off the team last season? Should we replace them with younger out of state players on our roster who are worse?Spanky2 said:Answer my question. How many of the 47 are starters? I rest my case.

If a coach came along saying he wants to turn UM into the power 5 farm team, I would go and yell outside of Bodnar's house tonight and every night this week to try and convince him to hire him.CDAGRIZ said:AZGrizFan said:I don’t give two shits where players come from. Completely agree. For the avoidance of doubt, my posts on this subject are not intended to suggest that we need fewer Montana kids. I’m attempting to make suggestions on how UM could become an innovator with the portal and use it to our advantage by not only getting FBS drop-downs, but also future FBS talent out of high school.
I honestly think it could work, you guys. I really do. I’m happy to entertain any counter arguments that show me I’m way off base with this.
