Embarrassment to the Rivalry

It’s all part of the rivalry. Just kids being competitive. This post is the perfect example.
This is funny. But in all reality. After the game. I sat and went down on the field to bs with people after the game.

The same kid giving the WWE suck it sign to the crowd is a good guy. I specifically brought that up and we laughed. It’s a reminder. They’re just young guys. They do dumb shit. He was actually very pleasurable to talk to. Good dude from Texas. He mentioned how awesome it was to play in this stadium. His actions after were very dumb. But at the end of the day he was just hyped. Who cares. He’ll probably learn from it.

I haven't been to a game since Pflu's first game in '10. IF Griz fans have thrown trash onto the field in years past, I have never seen it. Colter can claim all he wants. He is the Audio-Video man, show us the footage. I don't watch that scat sycophant. I've seen him while surfing the channels. Married life must satisfy his 'appetite,' as it appears he has gained 20-30 pounds since his wedding day.

Throwing stuff on the field is adolescent behavior. There should be video footage of the people throwing stuff on the field, if not, there should be from now on. Those identified should be shown the door, or more precisely, BARRED from the door, and banned from WGS. Your mother and father did not do a very good job of teaching you right from wrong.

As for those scat players/coaches/staff who precipitated this response, MSU needs to come down on that shit like a ton of bricks, and put an end to it and the Cruzado-esque behavior. That's where YOU come in, let Tessman and his minions know how you feel about that disgusting scene, and that you expect appropriate repercussions before the next game. Carbon copy(or whatever they do or call it now)to Clay Christian and the Board of Regents for followup action of not forthcoming. Tessman, in his introductory message to the scat world, touts MSUs 'world class museum,' but appears to approve his MSUs 'no-class-football-team." if he doesn't crush that shit.

I checked on the players(#0, #8, and #9), and coach, identified in the videos. They are not Montanans, they came from Compton, Houston, FRISCO, and Miami. Vigen obviously spared no expense in dragging the sewers of these hotbeds of class, sportsmanship, and athletic ability. It showed on the afternoon of November 22.

We went to the natty when the Griz played the Bison. My wife is a Griz. A drunk NDSU fan blocked her from using the port a potty so another Bison could go in front of her. She was there first. I was not with her at the time but other than that everyone got along ok. I was ticked and asked her to take me back to the area so I could possible find the guy who put his hand on my wife. She was adamantly against me seeking revenge and wouldn't agree to it. Good thing for me as I would have probably overreacted. I heard lots of people had some poor interactions with the dakota fans but I heard more positive than negative. The incident yesterday and the this one in Frisco are the only two negative sportsmanship I've encountered personally since graduating in "89 from MSU. I've walked into Stockman's many times over the years after games and got friendly ribbing and jokes only. Maybe because we lost each one in those days....
Actually, Montana has never played NDSU in Frisco or for a national championship. Its ridiculous how full of shit msu fans are. This is one example

My two cents worth. This rivalry is the 7th most contested rivalry between two teams in the same state.
Lehigh vs Lafayette - 161
Richmond vs William & Mary - 136
Oregon vs Oregon State - 129
Cincinnati vs Miami (OH) - 128
California vs Stanford- 128
Indiana vs Purdue - 126
Montana vs Montana State -124

in my short lifetime of 80 years I have seen the rivalry between both teams grow stronger.

The rivalry has always been a battle, but it was civil after the game. During the later years of the streak of the last part of the 20th century it became a little more common to see the animosity between fan bases.

Since the turn of this century the record is Griz 13 and the cats 12. Many times the Brawl has been a deciding game for the conference champion during this period.

Good, bad or otherwise the animosity between the fan bases has become more intense.

Both sides have displayed awful behavior towards the other many times.

While those displays are subjective, I believe that the cat fans have been on the losing side of the spectrum. I believe it is a byproduct of the streak.

Griz fans, don’t beat the drums to loudly as there are many that have taken it way too far as well.

I will end with this statement, regardless of how ugly each side of this rivalry has been, I think it pales in comparison to Ohio State vs Michigan.

I had the opportunity to attend that game many years ago, that was true hate.

Great summary. I agree. I don’t like the animosity and bad behavior. I quit attending games in Bozeman, my hometown and base for much of my family, 30 years age due to the hostility that even I felt or observed. I like rivalries. I like to sling comments at some Cat fans and make fun of them. But I don’t like all the crap and nonsense that goes back and forth. I didn’t even open the recent thread, the one reserved for whatever was in there. I generally like the Cat players and team. I came to know and met a lot of the Cats who played on the ‘84 team. Great guys.

excuse me . I meant SDSU. We went to the NDSU/MSU game last year and the Griz natty game the previous year.

None of it would have happened if the Griz had just won the damn game. Best way to not let them do that in our house is do all you can to make sure we beat them. That starts with money for NIL and not settling for 11-1 and 3rd seed and pushing a look at entire program for areas that can be improved and quit making excuses. I will start…. Get a team that isn’t physically outmatched in the trenches. Just looking at the physical stature of the cats vs Griz up close and in person and the pro day numbers each year is a red flag. Weights in the roster do not really tell you about strength etc.

Settling?? Settling?? Literally 126 other teams would be having parades in the street if they had to "settle" for being 11-1 and 3rd in the nation! And our season is not done yet. We still have the chance to "settle" for 14-1 and #1 in the nation.

And that other team that "physically outmatched" us in the trenches and played a near perfect game, only won by 3 points! 3 points!

My god we are a spoiled fan base! Eeyore would feel right at home here!🙄

Great post.

I simply don't understand this "outmatched" belief. What I saw was a cat defense who played a high shell coverage all game long as they absolutely knew they couldn't defend our skill players, and didn't have the talent up-front to get to KAY before he killed them. The only differences in the game were a pick six by an out-of-position defender on a fortuitous bounce and a highly questionable holding call.

sdsu dominated us (and everyone) in the title game; the bubs most certainly did not.

You got it all wrong MikeyGriz. The world is such a bad place.

Let's fire a future hall of fame coach and bring back Bob Stitt so we can really swirl down the drain.

Woe is me.

A lot of people I think forget just how badly the 2011 NCAA sanctions hurt this program and it's reputation. We essentially spent the 2010s in limbo trying to get back on the wagon. And during that time, MSU was slowly becoming the FCS powerhouse that it is today. Rob Ash (as much crap as many here give him), was at the time the best coach MSU had had in decades. He righted the ship from the Mike Kramer days and set the foundation for MSU to be consistently good.

STATE'S PATH TO PERENNIAL POWER:

  • Rob Ash (2007 - 2015) - The successor to Mike Kramer, set the foundation for State.

  • Jeff Choat (2016 - 2020) - Set the hard-nosed attitude and mindset for the Cats.

  • Brent Vigen (2021 - Present) - With the foundation in place and that hard-nosed attitude, Brent brought the blueprint from NDSU with him and now MSU is a perennial FCS power.
It literally took 18 years for their program to go from bad to phenomenal. And it wasn't until the last 10 years where they started seeing good results and then these last 4 years to solidify they're a perennial power.

MONTANA'S PATH TO RETURNING TO PERENNIAL POWER:

  • Bobby Hauck 1.0 (2003 - 2009): Bobby led this program to 3 National Championship appearances, the program was at it's pinnacle.

  • Robin Pflugrad (2010-2011): Pflu had a blip in 2010 with Montana's first losing season in decades. However, he had the program back to its known high standards with a semifinal run in 2011.

  • Mick Delaney (2012-2014): After Montana was hit with sanctions by the NCAA, the program was a shell of its former self. Mick Delaney stepped in to keep the ship afloat.

  • Bob Stitt (2015-2017): Having survived the previous few years from potential disaster, Bob Stitt was hired on to lead Montana to a new era and back to a perennial power. However, the results in 3 years still had Montana as a mediocre program.

  • Bobby Hauck 2.0 (2018 - Present) - Bobby was brought back to Montana to install the pride and tradition of the Montana Grizzlies. Bobby had to lay down the foundation, the tough-nosed attitude/mindset, and that power program mentality. And he had to do that in the course of 7 seasons vs state's 20 year crawl to do it. He brought this program to its 4th national championship appearance in his tenure with UM in 2023.

OVERALL VIEW:

Looking back at what Montana has gone through the last 15 years, it's incredible to see how quickly Bobby Hauck was able to get us back to a point in our program where we can now confidently say that we are a perennial power again with being a top 5 team. We're not quite there yet as its pretty clear that we need to get better in the trenches if we want to truly be as good or better than the Dakotas and State. But we're right there.

Like I mentioned in another thread where a Cat fan said, "Boy Montana State must be doing something right when they win 7 of 10 against Montana, and that shows how much further ahead we are than you", my response was, "Boy, Montana must be doing something right when it is the only program to have beaten both the Dakotas in the last decade while Montana State is still trying to figure out how to do that".

We're not that far behind, if not even at all. A 3-point game in a rivalry game proves that. Rivalry games are unpredictable too.

Anyway, that's just my two cents on this topic.

To add to that, President Waded Cruzado and AD Leon Costello have been amazing a building facilities and support for the athletic programs.

No way any of this happens under Peter Fields as AD.

Any other coach would be fired for going 2-5 against the Cats. Literally anyone other than Bobby 2.0.

They could of easily scored another 7 points on the last drive if they wanted to.
