embarrased

If you are embarrassed by the performance of a college team, you are likely way too emotionally invested in a game. I was certainly not pleased with the performance, but I also did not expect us to come out of Portland with a win. I have seen enough of this team to see it's limitations. Our defense is above average, but we have a converted fullback as a starter and some undersized D linemen on the 2 deep. That makes us susceptible to a team like PSU. Our offensive line is below average for what we expect. I don't care what kind of offense you run, if you don't have the horses up front, you are going to struggle. Posters have been lamenting for a couple of years about the lack of both offensive and defensive line recruits. Those chickens have come home to roost. We have some rebuilding to do regardless of who the coach is. This team looked like a .500 team on paper to start with. The NDSU win gave people some high expectations that could not be met with who we are in the trenches right now.

I would have been disappointed if the score were closer than it was. But, 35-16? Yeah, that's an embarrassment for a Griz team. The PSU OL opened holes; the UM OL didn't. The PSU DL closed holes; the UM DL didn't. PSU made 1st & 10s routine; UM struggled for every one.

Ridiculous, but I'd expect nothing less from you.

Did the PSU O-line open holes? Yes. They've done it ALL year, to EVERY team they've played with the exception of UND.
Did the UM O-line open holes? Yes. Minus the 5 sacks, they had 179 yards rushing on 42 attempts.
Also, the two teams had the exact same # of 1st downs so I have no idea what your "1st & 10's routine" comment means.

This game hinged on one thing: Big plays. PSU's 5 scoring plays were 41 (on 3rd & 19), 46 (on 3rd &2), 35 (on 3rd & 8), 47 and 37 yards (on 3rd & 9). Third and long---right where we wanted 'em....

edit: Oh, and I'm embarrassed that the dipshit that started this thread doesn't even know how to spell embarrassed.
I watched a different game than you, it appears. Take off your maroon glasses! PSU made UM look like DII. No, UM is not DII. And, what do you mean by "big plays?" Yeah, most of us think of big plays as long passing plays. PSU burned the Griz on running plays from scrimmage. Well, PSU did score on one "big" play, but damage was done on runs from scrimmage.

As to your matching 1st downs, PSU made more yardage on its 1st downs than the Griz did, resulting in more points. It's not the number of 1st downs, it's the quality of those 1st downs. PSU's were done in one or two plays, whereas it took the Griz all 4 plays. I've seen this happen before: teams run consecutive 1st downs consistently on some drives. Where's the Griz D?

Griz have been making 95% of the teams it plays every year for the past 23-25 years look "DII". But thanks for clearing up the fact that the Griz aren't DII. I had no idea.

And regarding "big plays"...have you actually polled people? And who is "us"? So, in your world, long running plays don't count as "big plays"? It has to be a passing play? That is fucking comical. Even by your standards.

How the h*** were my expectations unreasonable or objective? Very few on this board thought the Griz would win this one. But, losing 35-16? Give me a break!

Jellystone, sorry I kept you up nights "verifying" who I am. :) No one else gives a s**t. 8-)

It was a long play (but not a "big" play, apparently). Took a bit of set up, but it was worth it in the end.

Two things:

1. PSU is the BEST team in the league.

2. Montana is not that good this year. Middle of the conference is about right.

Facts are facts. We might hope for a win over a good team yet....and we must worry that we can escape ISU with a win.

We have a good win. A win over the 4 x defending national champion that's 4-1 and 6-2 overall this year.

Yep. And North Dakota can claim a win over PSU. And we put the wood to North Dakota.

Point being...beating NDSU does not overshadow the point that this Griz team is average and lacking overall talent..
