Out of curiosity, who thinks he is ahead of Mariani at the same stage of their careers? I feel he is ahead of Mariani at this stage. I have a feeling EH will be in the all time great WR debate along with Mariani, and Douglass, when his GRIZ career is over. I know that is lofty company, but Ellis has that "IT" factor.

Statistically he sure is.

Mariani

Freshman:
10 games. 5 solo tackles, 3 asst, 8 total tackles.

Sophomore:
11 games. 15 receptions for 231yds & 1td. 28 punt returns 373 yds. 12KO returns 387yds

Junior:
16 games. 1rush for 12yds. 69 catches for 1308yds 15tds. 32 punt returns for 373yds 2td. 25 KO returns for 572yds.

Senior:
15 games. 1 rush for 0yds. 80 catches for 1479yds 13tds. 32 punt returns for 507 yds 1td. 5 KO Returns for 199 yds 1td

--

Henderson

Freshman:
11 games. 2 carries for 2 yards. 23 catches 360yds 2tds. 8 KO returns 170 yds.

Sophomore (So far):
9 games. 1 carry for 24 yards. 30 catches for 690yds 12tds. 15 kickoff returns for 345yds. 13 punt returns for 180 yards.

At that pace he'll be at:
40 catches for 920 yards with 16 tds receiving at the end of this year (not counting playoffs).

Looking at the record books he may break a lot of Griz single season and career records before he's done here.

I guess EH's truest measure will come the next 2 seasons. Mariani was simply amazing his last 2 seasons.

Agreed. He's shown great improvement so far compared to his Freshman year when he seemed a bit tentative when going for the ball. This year he's become one of those receivers where if the ball is in his area he's going to go get it. Pretty damn exciting to have a receiver like that out there!

I think of Étu when I watch Ellis play. I think Étu was taller and Ellis is faster. We've had a lot of great ones here. Prolific, dynamic guys like JD, Wells, Jimmy Ferris, Marc, Jabin, Raul Pacheco (so?), and now Ellis. Also dependable workman type guys like Travis Walker, Mike Ferriter, Ryan Bagley, and Ty Palmer.

I'm sure I forgot a lot of others but the point is a lot of players it was fun watching catch passes.

i agree with whoever wrote that henderson has "it". when i think of "it", i think of crebo and mariani. douglass and ah yat. yo humpherey.

There's no doubt if this young man stays healthy he will go down as our all time great statistical WR. Plus, his return skills are everything that I had heard before this year. Nationally ranked & definitely a first team all BSC guy & at minimum a a honorable mention All American if coaches dont become politically senior happy.

Big time player that makes big time plays.

I was at Dickey's tonight and I agree completely with coach, Ellis is easily "One of the premiere skill positions players throuhgout the entire Big Sky Conference...I know where I would throw the ball if I was a Quarterback!" - Mick Delaney

Completely agree. Imagine what it is going to be like next year when Jone's comes into his own. A true dual headed threat and let's not forget about Naccarato. With the weapons the Griz have on offense - they should be the top team in the BSC for total offense - if not the nation.

"THE BIG E" ----- Too bad you experts couldn't see it coming last year...Like I did. I know for some it was hard to see through the "horrible" performances at the "Q" position in 2012. First of all Ellis will have to maintain, through all of the physicality of multiple years and "stay" on the field. Second of all "JJ" needs to stay healthy because no one else on the roster can get Ellis the ball like JJ.( If at all ) ...Ellis will have a senior year with a diff. Q.B. This should be interesting because we know what "Big E" can do if you can "chuck it". The "Big E" will also be a barometer to evaluate the next Q.B. after JJ... meaning we know what Ellis can do... Can you get him the football on time, and accurately???? Ellis runs ultra smooth routes and is blessed with seeming effortless hip flow during his route changes... like Sambrano. However unlike Jabin he isn't hampered with " long stretches" of laziness. I absolute love Ellis' game and he is by far my FAVORITE player to watch on this years' Griz squad. Best wishes to a healthy career... "Big E" :egriz: I have multiple posts after last season saying "Big E" would be a star this year. He is a VERY gifted athlete...we're fortunate to have him!!!!!!!

I can confirm your belief and support of Ellis Henderson. I remember seeing several of your post about him. I have been making similar comments since he arrived two springs ago. He was hampered by hamstring issues and making the adjustment mid-year after not being in a competitive situation for nearly a full year.

Talented, humble, very bright and he engages with everyone that approaches him. He is always one of the last Griz players to leave the field after games taking pictures and signing for everyone.

I was fortunate to sit with his father at several games last year and can tell you all that, the apple did not fall far from the tree, this young man is a complete class act. I believe that us Griz Football followers are fortunate that circumstances brought him our way.

Henderson is a walking breathing example that Pflu & Baker did more than a few things right. He is my favorite Griz player and person. Here's to young Mr Henderson staying healthy, productive and succesful for many many years to come. Special player and special person.

I haven't had the good fortune of meeting Ellis, but I have met his father and spoken to him on a couple of occasions and I couldn't agree more. If he's anything like his father, then he'll go far in life.

Yup, very nice kid. He is a touchdown machine this season. I'll be there for the show next week I hope.

Ellis Henderson walked from Hawaii to Montana when he transferred.

Close. He actually ran from Hawai'i to Montana. When you have wheels like that, why waste them walking? ;)
