Eastern Washington Eagles Scouting Report

The Griz get lucky and beat ISU by a fluke TD in OT and all the sudden they are back. Hope rings eternal! Can't say I think they will be able to match EWU on Offense and Baldwin, who turned the GRIZ HC position down by the way, will be too much of a mismatch with Stitt. Griz fast paced O plays right into the hands of EWU by giving their high powered O more possessions. Griz keep it close early but EWU runs away in a track meet 52 - 35 ending Griz hopes of the post season.

Reliable sources? I kid...I kid. just figured someone would do it...
I would love to see a 39-31 win, but could be closer to this 52-35.

I do find it funny that people are predicting EWU will score in the 50's. They've done that exactly ONCE this year, and that was in week 3 against that vaunted MSU defense. Their last 5 games have been 41, 45, 43, 13, 30.

If TOP heavily favors Eagles we lose, they score a ton of points given many opportunities.
Key to win .....establish any kind of ball control keep them off offense as much as possible.

There should be lots of tape on how to limit EWU. On punts, punt it high so coverage gets there. It won't go as far but it beats the hell out of a return touchdown. I like our odds, but if we give up numerous big plays we are screwed...specifically any runs over 40 yards, which we are really struggling with right now. D has got to put the hurt on people hit West hit Kupp, not dirty but beat the hell out of them and make them think about it.

To me this is the question as well. Time of Possession? Will Stitt stick with his hurry up style and try to run as many plays as possible to tire the EWU D? If he does, The EWU O will get too many opportunities. Kupp and Bourne are gonna break some big ones they are just that good. However, against Weber and NAU, Eastern gave up multiple long play long time drives that just killed them and not only wore their D down but threw their O out of rhythm. I think that is the key to beating EWU keeping their O off the field.

If the Griz do this they are not staying true to who they are raising the question of how well they can play a completely different style. I just don't think they can do it. I'll stick with EWU in a track meet scoring 52 points because they will get 4-5 more possessions than they normally do to the Griz 35.

Anybody putting the O/U at 52 for EWU I will take the under for $1,000,000 please.

They've hit that number exactly ONCE this year, and that was against MSU's defense. Anybody think our defense is better than MSU's?

I'd like to bet the House maximum on the Under, please

Looking forward to a very close game...last possession type game. We do have two of our best players coming back so watch out!

Shit, I thought Hamlin and Day had used up their 9 years of eligibility already.

I'm loving how we're not seeing the usual EWU trolls this year. Another reason that loss against NAU last week was good. :D

I enjoy the good EWU posters who post here.

If the Griz don't open up the play book and play to their strengths they will lose this Saturday. They have to let Simis or Gus sling the ball around to our receivers. THAT IS THE STRENGTH OF THE OFFENSE! You can't run zone read every fricken time behind this offensive line. When you get inside the 5 yard line RUN A DIVE PLAY FOR CHRIST'S SAKE! Going for it on 4th down at mid field with this offense is just plain beetle headed by Coach Stitt. Play to your strengths i.e. the receivers and defense don't play to your weaknesses i.e. run game and the offense. Punt the fricken ball and get field position!

Did you watch Saturday's game? There was only ONE time in that game where he went for it at midfield. He punted from the 47, 29, 18, 37 and 36 yard lines. He went for it once, at the Idaho State 44. That's yet another part of his offensive philosophy that has gone out the window, despite everyone insisting he's "inflexible" and unwilling to adjust.
Yes, I watched the game! The ONE time coach Stitt went for it on 4th down they had a two score lead. Those kinds of stupid moves cost you games and Stitt looked like a moron after that play. It is NEVER a good idea to go for it on 4th down with a two score lead and a good defense like the Grizzlies have.

The Griz are going to have to score 35-42 points to win on Saturday IMO. The offense can do it but they are going to have to execute a hell of a lot better than we have seen in recent weeks.

The Griz have a good defense? Yeah. I once thought that as well. Aren't we over that yet?

Really? He converts that and goes down and puts points on the board to put the game away and you're hailing him as a hero. Guaranteed.

His record of converting 4th downs is about 40%. Risk/reward in this situation highly tipped toward punting. ISU's offense is very mistake prone; pin them back and wait for a mistake. But that's thinking like a HC; Stitt thinks like an OC.
