The difference that I notice in scoring per quarter is EWU’s defense allows more and more points per quarter as the game goes on 36, 46, 44, and 59 by the 4th while the Griz are just the opposite 41, 41, 24, and 13 by the 4th."
This is my favorite thing you mention...can't get too down if we are down early...gotta keep plugging away and don't get too rush-happy or pass-happy...we've unfortunately seen both sides of that and I hope the coaches learned from NAU and Poly and have the offense ready to put up some points

Oh I love the "going for it on 4th down" call in many cases, just not all. So at what point do we or don't we? Are you implying we just keep attempting to move the ball until we run out of downs regardless of where we are on field, what the score is or how much time is left?

C'mon now, you must have some guidelines. Let's hear 'em. As I have mentioned I'm not going to claim to know everything about football (At least I admit it, unlike some other forum members) but I'm pretty certain points win games....more of them actually, not just TD's.

With that said I do see where you are coming from a little bit with this (EWU) game in particular. It's a go for broke.

Here's my parameter....4th & 3 or less, anywhere inside the 30 yard line we go for it. If it's more than 4 yards, we kick the FG. LOS @ the 30 is a 47 yarder, which is about the limit of Worst's leg. Outside that, have the punter pin them deep.

I hope one of the coaches sees Mr.Zona's post, it's spot-on.

If that Toledo highlight reel is any indication of how the Rockets defended EWU all game, then the Rockets' pass rush rarely utilized more than four guys. Toledo really focused on not getting burned deep. Eastern's passing touchdowns were 23, 22, and 19 yards.

Sam Houston uses a five or six man pass rush and gives up some long passing plays for scores---33, 59 and 62 yards. But EWU could not stop SHSU.

I would guess Montana won't go with a 5 or 6 man pass rush very often.

Thanks for posting the highlights. Very helpful. I have watched most of two of their games along with the highlights of others. Eastern's defense appears to be somewhat vulnerable, especially on the road, to the run. Toledo and SHSU had success with cut-back and misdirection runs. Adams is scary. He may be susceptible to stripping the ball as he holds it out so that he can make a play while on the run, which he often does. I hope we can pressure him into mistakes, but easier said than done. When they have been able to get pressure on QB, it is because their tackle -- I believe No. 93 -- collapses the pocket with a bull rush. Our guards have to contain him.

For us to win this game, JJ needs to run the ball (often). Remeber that epic scramble he had against them in '11? It was like 70 yards or something like that. I don't think we necessarily need to run the spread but that ate them up last year (and apparently this year too vs. SHSU), so maybe we should run it. I would like to see JJ keep it several times, as a designed run, and not just a scrambled passing play; but I also think he needs to scramble for a few 1st downs too. If he gets about 15 rushes for 80+ yards, we should win going away.

Also, i don't get the infatuation with Counts for this game. I don't see him at RB as a good matchup at all, unless he's the FB dive man on some kind of spread option scheme, or he's catching passes. Hope i'm wrong there.

I doubt we'll run the spread as we haven't really done that this year but wouldn't we? If the streach play gets snuffed out early (as I suspect it will, especially with Counts), I hope they adjust into a spead (but I kind of doubt they will).

Per the Toledo model, I feel the first priority is take away their deep passing game. So we need a strong rush out of our front four to limit the amount of time lil' shooter has to pass.
