DUCK FOOTNOTE

The #1 seed in the West features two great freshman guards, Tyler Dorsey, a four-star recruit out of Los Angeles, and Casey Benson, the high school player of the year in Arizona. Special thanks to them for sending us Ahmad Rorie. We'll see, but I think Rorie is of their caliber.

My brother and I were talking about how great it is to have have Rorie at Montana, just knowing he started for the Ducks as a true Freshman. We are hoping he has a Martin Breunig like impact next season. The GRIZ backcourt will be talented and deep.

I am told, by a player, that he is very good, will definitely start next year, and will probably be all-conference.

I'd say that is accurate. Based on a few scrimmages I saw, he was the best guard on the court. My concern, how does Travis find the minutes for all this guard talent? Is it possible to see 4 guards with 1 big often? It is a nice problem to have though. :thumb:

I don't feel like looking for it right now but I saw one of the local sports guys did a piece on Rorie where he said he expects to be the 3x Big Sky MVP. I love the confidence he is bringing (I hope it's not just too much cockiness) and I can't wait to see what he can do.

Let's run the floor, can't you just see it now but isn't that what TD wanted?

Run the floor? Monty's getting into the HOF for walking it up twenty years and taking second in conference lots of times. We're back to playing Monty ball here in Missoula.

As for Rorie being 3x Big Sky MVP (mentioned in another post), I appreciate and like his confidence. I doubt that happens though. The GRIZ have too many players to share the scoring load with and are immensely deep at guard. I also doubt DeCuire wants to have one player scoring that often. Oguine is a perfect example of how a player sacrifices for the team. Oguine is capable of putting up scoring numbers like Hall did this year for MSU, but due to the team concept his stats are not as impressive as he is capable of.

As good as Rorie is, I know for a fact Oguine, Wright, and Dunn won't just step aside to allow Rorie to steal the show. All those guys are too good and competitive for that to happen. I've been thinking, How will DeCuire find time for all the guard talent? Anyway, I have a feeling he will go with 4 guard sets frequently. North Carolina has done it with astounding success this season. Feel free to watch UNC in their remaining tournament games. That will give you all an idea of what I expect to see with the GRIZ, beginning this coming season.
