Duchesne to Portland State

You are both correct....Portland State is a community college and the Big Sky is an inferior conference.

Uh, I sure hope you mean 'commuter,' rather than 'community.'

No matter how you look at it, this seems like a lateral move. It is movning back to a city, which nate is familiar with. He must be a non-beliver in the UM future. As an assistant, it is better to bring a team up and then move on to a head coaching position. Basically, the griz have remained the same for three years.

The only place for PSU to go is down, since they've ruled the conference for several years.

Still no insider information on the real reason Nate is uprooting his family, leaving his alma mater, wifes home town and the opportunity to bring a mid level finisher to the top of the conference?

Do assistants like to work for Wayne? The real reason has not surfaced.

I never said he wasn't a good player but, D1 basketball is a business and if you're going to coach at that level you need to be able to bring something to table other than great college stats and rep. He has no expereince other than what he got the last 2 years at Carroll. He couldn't even get Colt Idol who went to HS the same place he went to come to Carroll, so he has a lot to show and learn yet.

I'll give you and example of the business Mike Price the asst. at Idaho was the manager at UW when Bender was the HC. After college he was an asst. at a JUCO in Iowa that's similiar to CSI. He went out and made his recuirting connections in the MId-West and major metro areas that produce stud players. He then gets hired at EWU, Utah, and Idaho. Mike Price never played one second of college basketball but, he'll always get D1 coaching jobs becuase, of his recruiting abilities and connections and that's what he brings to the table an that's what the business is about. I can tell you this there isn't a D1 or D2 HC in his right mind that is going to give a guy a 50k+ paying assistant job who's only strong point to his resume is that he had a great playing career. Isn't going to happen, he'll Danny Manny had to start out as the G.A. and bottom asst. at Kansas and he won them a NC. You either got to be a great coach with a ton of experience or a great recruiter. KP may have those qualities some day but, right now he doesn't.

Davisten, your idea of KP replacing ND is a far fetched as a Palm tree in Northern Siberia.

I just want to comment on KP not landing Colt Idol for Carroll, He may not have landed Idol, but he did help land Andy Garland. I wonder why Tin or ND couldn't land the best player in the State. A true griz basketball fan must be really ticked that the best player in the State of Montana, out of Missoula of all places, plays at Carroll and not for their "mighty" griz. Again, the griz BBall program isn't that great, quit acting like it is!

Sugar Bear,
Nowhere in my post did i suggest KP replacing ND as top assistant, i was referring to my earlier post that he'd been offered the GA position, so get your facts straight! I agree that not every athlete that played at a high level can make the transition from player to coach, but i feel ones with the playing experience that demonstrated their abilities on the court are at an advantage being able to transition from playing to coaching. He demonstrated his "leadership abilities" as a PG at CC and now will get the chance to continue gaining experience as a GA for the Griz the next couple of years. And he did play a huge role in landing Andy Garland who was an all-american as a true freshman. On the flipside with the Idol kid it's kind of hard to knock for beginning his career at the D1 level (MSU) when given the opportunity instead of settling at Carroll regardless of who the assistant coaches are and what ties they may have. Had the Griz offered Garland do you really think he's be at Carroll?

no I meant community. Didn't I spell the word correctly?

So by your logic, you're losing assistant coaches to, and receiving 50+ point home court beat downs, by a two-year school?

Gotcha.
