cody45051 said:Nope, just a bunch of out of control raping and sexual assaulting of women that lead to a $60 million drop in revenue, the firing of an AD and head football coach, and a massive effort to change policy for an entire campus. Not much doing. I'm sure the cynicism egrizzers have is just as biting in person.

This wasn't a criminal case it was a civil case the university rolled over on all the accusations of bias, Title IX and Hostile environment. Both are now subject to outside monitoring to outside community agenceys. It could not have gone much worse UNLESS you are the MPD and County attorney. They had best be prepared
What I really hope is that this result doesnt't give the NCAA any ammunition.......
The U had best be prepared of individual actions from complaintants that will involve the writing of checks.
Rember this from the initial letter. They found plenty:
"Once the Department completes its investigation, we will notify you of our conclusions.
If we conclude that the University has not violated the Constitution or laws of the United States,
we will close the investigation. If, on the other hand, we find a violation, we will inform you of
our findings and seek to reach agreement regarding how the University can best come into
compliance with the law. The Department’s goal is to work in close collaboration with the
University throughout the investigation and to resolve any concerns in an expeditious manner,
without resorting to contested litigation."

UMGriz75 said:This agreement is the mildest of such agreements I have seen from this DOJ; in essence, a face-saver for the DOJ as no specific incidents are identified, no fines were levied, and the agreement is basically for UM to follow the laws that is already obligated to follow.
When this DOJ has been able to identify specific instances of misconduct, it has levied fines, ranging from $55,000 at Virginia Tech to $357,500 at Eastern Michigan, and that is why the absence of any fine whatsoever is very significant.
It is basically a "if you sign this, we'll leave," agreement, or another way, "we didn't really find anything, but don't do it again."
grzz said:TNT, please show me the information where UM was informed of their findings of violations? Shouldn't that be public record? And if so, why wouldn't that have been released as well. Everything discussed today was very basic, we have an agreement going forward to make UM a leader in the handling of sexual assault cases. They listed no specific violations, at least that I have seen, so please share them with us because I really would like to see them.

"DOJ: Women at UM were 'belittled, disbelieved, blamed' for reporting sexual assaults"

The investigation never was a witch hunt. It was simply to bring the university and it procedures into compliance with "the law" it was clearly defined in their initial letter here is a link:' http://missoulian.com/doj-letter-about-um-office-of-public-safety-investigation/pdf_a8b0d75a-93d5-11e1-8266-001a4bcf887a.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The university cooperated, problems were found and they were corrected. Were they in compliance, there would have been no need for an agreement (per the letter) There in fact was TWO seperate agreements the one with the University Police department a bit more specific giving them two years or so to get things fixed. This isn't so hard to understand. Yes they will be the model going forward. I would find it hard to believe there is anyone who doesn't believe a lot of things were mishandled in the past. Even a certain Minnesota based attorney believes that.
FVV made not find it quite so easy as did the University. He could learn a bit about leadership when things can get ugly from ol' RE. As much as some may enjoy Freddie giving the feds the finger, it just isn't wise.
