This (I believe) came from Lucas Semb who also asked Flowers in the early week presser to talk on the offense struggles - and Bobby cut that off. I’d venture Cole (and the team) has their own insight and probably instructions to specifically not address questions like those to the media.

Semb is the new guy in the group and I have no problem with him asking them. Others that have been around a while probably knew the reply they’d get to a question like that and just don’t opt to ask it. I like that Semb is trying to get guys to open up more on stuff but I’d bet he’s going to keep getting the same replies.

Very little upside for players to engage with the media...vs the risk - especially with the Missoula media.

If he says yes, the fans will cry about how our offense sucks and be mad that he's happy with our offense. If he says he's not, that causes troubles with the team. His answer was the best one. There are a million noncommittal ways this question could’ve been answered like…

“We haven’t gotten the results we’ve wanted the last few weeks, but we’re putting in the work and going to turn this thing around.”

Why not just express some mild hope for improvement? To me, “no comment” leaves plenty of room for interpretation, which is the issue here.

He answered just like instructed. Not sure it means anymore or any less than that.

Or in this case, it has the appearance of if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.

They are simple ways of answering questions like these without committing to anything or leaving room for interpretation.

All is fair with the coaches. Questions to the players are different....

I also doubt he has an agenda. But, I have had countless lessons/instructions on dealing with the media, and in all of them - I was told to stay in my lane. I am sure the players get the same instructions. Again - they have no control over scheme, personnel decisions etc...

And, the fact that BH slapped him previously for the same question to a different player, leads me to believe this guy is still very much learning.

I don't think it was a dick move, but doing things like that are going to hurt his professional advancement in a small market like this. Some may not like that, but it's a fact.
