Does Montana have an OC Problem?

I would agree if we could recruit/reload as well as they do, however that doesn't seem to be the case for whatever reason.
To me, it's just a recipe for turning into the 2019 bobcats. You beat bad and mediocre teams, but the second you run into a team with superior athletes, you get annihilated. If we want to compete with the top of the FCS, we need to recruit players that get us there and coach them up to stop making so many mistakes. There are unfortunately no shortcuts.

Pointing out I'm a fan of the Triple Option/Wing-T and would like to see it at Montana means I don't know anything about Griz Football? Expected stupid remarks like this just not necessarily from you
Dude, there is so much wrong with your subjective wish that I don’t even know where to start. I guess, first of all, UM once ran a triple option. Did you know that? It is commonly referred to as the dark days of Griz FB. You want to take us back to the dark ages? Second, this is the BSC. Teams have to be balanced to make it through it and especially through the playoffs. BH is constantly preaching “balance” on O. Hell, even cal polyester scrapped the triple option years ago. Finally, everyone complains about UM not being able to recruit the right o-line now. Do you really think we could get the OLs needed for that kind of offense? Finally finally, who TF wants to run a triple option in inclement weather? Nobody runs it in the north because there would be too many fumbles. It would be coaching malpractice

IMO it's because people don't understand it, think it's "boring", they don't pass enough etc. All excuses that I've heard over the years and frankly all not true. Georgia Tech won an Orange Bowl in 2014 running it and Costal Carolina (now Liberty) along with both Army and Navy have had alot of success this and past seasons utilizing different modernized versions of it.

You don't have to be in the basic flexbone, wishbone or Wing-T formstions to implement Wing-T/Triple Option Concepts. A good portion of Army's offense for example utilizes alot of +1 plays using the QB, exactly what NDSU and SDSU do.

It's not because people don't understand it or think it is boring. If it was so great, the best teams would run it. They don't because it isn't difficult to defend. You could add packages, but you can't run it exclusively.

The reason Army has to run wing T and why it is popular in high school is it masks not having big enough Oline to pass block or a qb with a good enough arm. This does not work against good teams at high levels of the game.

Might want to read my other posts on the topic, or even watch the video I linked. The modern option offenses don't run it like they used to, and the inclement weather argument is bull as that could be applied to passing and even running the ball (bad snaps, exchanges etc.). Wing-T and Option Concepts doesn't mean we're running a triple option play every single down. Sweeps, belly, power, zone and +1 runs out of shotgun, pistol + under center make up a large percentage of Army's offense and Navy's "Millennial Wing-T".

You should go into BH’s office and attempt to convince him to make the switch to the Wingnut-T. Remember to cite all the northern teams that run it. You won’t get laughed out of the building or anything

You're right no Northern team runs alot of Power, +1, Sweeps or Zone rushing plays with PA-Passes, screens etc. built into it with a dual threat QB......don't quit your day job.

What is their record over the past 5? 10? How many championships?
They were Independent until this season so they haven't been able to win Conference Championships. He has 4 Bowl wins (2016, 2017, 2018, 2021) and won the CiC 4 out of the last 7 years and beaten Navy 6 out of the last 8 years (2016, 2017, 2018, 2020, 2022, 2023).

They are just one example, Costal Carolina under Chadwell had alot of success and was ranked in the Top25 often, Navy has rebounded this season under their new Offense and UNLV has been arguably the most competitive they've ever been thanks to the Go-Go offense.

And not a National Championship in the bunch. Isn't that the goal?

Feels like you're being obtuse on purpose, it's a different animal in FBS then it is at FCS. It's no secret we have a better post season setup then they do, they actively care more about $$ and matchups while leaving out the smaller school. GT under Paul Johnson showed it could be successful at the P4 level, and that was before the offense modernized.

My point, whether FBS or FCS, is that you can win games with triple Option/Wing-T but you will struggle to beat the best teams on a consistent basis. If this wasn't the case, more of the best teams would use it. Good teams can stop it, shut it down.

You do realize the service academies have height, weight and academic standards and have to be appointed? How many Ivies have national championships in the last 50 years running the modern offenses?
Compare apples to apples rather than I'm right or it's the highway.

Apple to apples is how many teams have won a FCS Championship, because that is the goal. Army and Yale are not the comparables.

We have a QB problem.

Whether that's because we don't have a quality FCS starting QB talent or we have a problem with a coaching staff that has shown no confidence in ONE starting QB for the second half of the year has been debated over and over on EGriz.

We knew who the starting QB was for the team last year after the NAU game and we rode him to the NC. Once McD knew he was the leader of the O he didn't worry about trading drives with Vidlak or that a fumble or an INT would sideline him.

The coaching staff has shown time and time again that they don't believe Fife or KAY is THE #1 QB.

Instead of a home playoff game this weekend after a bye last weekend is solely the result of a QB problem. If that problem isn't solved next season we will not succeed against the likes of SDSU, NDSU or those damn furkitties

My friend, a starter from last year, said Ryan is a great guy and players like him. You have bad info, or are just making it up.
I can give you the names of multiple players who would say the opposite. And really who care their names, look at the size and speed of this team. It’s a joke. This coach sucks.
