DL injuries

You guys have a really good, fast and physical defense. I think they'll get after, and hold up very well against most of the teams on your schedule. However... being undersized on the DL is a big problem when you play a big front that likes to pound the football. I know you've had injuries on the DL, but you're running a 3-3-5, and your 2nd string nose is 244 pounds? Gubner is an animal in there but if he's playing every snap in that defense, it's not going to last. Most of the teams that run a 3 man front have at least a couple 300 pound monsters to rotate in at nose.

This is all reasonable analysis. I’m with ya. I think the theory is to have a fast d line and use a lot of stunts and twists in conjunction with our LB’s to create havoc rather than creat immediate push into the backfield. But if we run into an OL that is also fast and good footwork technicians, it proves to be a challenge for us.

What are the 3-3-5 schools with 300 lbs noses?

The nose is really key in any odd man front. If you can block him one on one with a center the rest of the blocking angles along the front are pretty sweet. That is why Gubner is so important. He commands a double team. He frees up LBs to make plays. But yes mixing it up with a fast player lighter player like Detrick can cause trouble for an O line. I think as Ramos gets experience he will be really good later in the season. I think running a bunch of different guys (including backup TE) to give Gubner is workable. But make no mistake Gubner is the key to Griz front. If Griz get big leads the next two weeks he needs to be on the sidelines ASAP.

I am somewhat disappointed Ramos hasn't come along quicker...having our only other option be 245 lbs going up against a lineup of 300+ pounders isn't the ideal scenario. Detrick would be much more effective coming off the edge (but then again with Harris, Hustedt, Edwards and Mata'afa I suppose we've got that position still covered nicely. It's nice Detrick is seeing the field...will be a beast in the coming years. VERY glad he's back and healthy.

That didn’t answer my question. I already knew much of what you said.

The Cats will rush for over 300 yards against the Griz.

Well then, we might as well just save the wear and tear and not show up. I mean, the team that rushes for the most yards ALWAYS wins. Amirite??

That appears to be what we did last year.

Crazy how hard uptop roots against the Griz.

Hmmm. Well I don't know the guy (kinda acts like an ass sometimes but don't we all lol) but from an outsider looking in and watching his posts - I'd say he mainly roots against mediocrity. The griz proved to be mediocre last year and they are looking very mediocre this year so far.

Guess it is just weird that I didn't see him complain about the mediocre Griz prior to BH 2.0.
