Disrespect for our Grizzly Marching Band

Good lord. I really don't know why anyone in athletics would be worried about blasting "raise a little hell" as quickly as possible after any event on the field.

We were talking about this during the game. The Griz canned music used to be way more current, better. If you walked into the stadium in 1993 while the team was warming up, you usually heard "Enter Sandman" because that's what the team wanted to hear. The Black Album was just two years old.
In 1998, when it was third down and the defense was forcing a punt, you heard "Bawitdaba" the intro for Kid Rock, which was brand new.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating for the return of either of the above mentioned tunes. My point is that they were fairly fresh and UM didn't seem all that interested in pedaling music to the 65+ crowd.

Now you hear these goofball songs that probably cost less in licensing fees. "Raise a Little Hell" is a 45 year old diddy by Trooper, a Canadian band that was probably a mock up of Boston and the Osmonds. Even old Cotton Eyed Joe, which was six years fresh when the Griz first played it in 25 years ago, is a one off by a Euro Dance band, Rednex.

Play something the student likes, maybe it's contemporary, maybe it's just something they all like to sing. Remember "Save a Horse" by Big and Rich? Not on my playlist, but the student section sang it. I don't think I've ever heard a recording of "Seven Nation Army" played at Washington Griz, but I've been to stadiums where where the entire crowd sings the chorus.

Please, please. No more "raise a little hell" at full blast. It's the Wurther's candy of 70s pop/rock, some truly old man crap that needs to be retired.

First, go kick rocks! The Black album was, is and always will be the best! Damn kids don't know your ass from a hole in the wall, hey, ill bet ur a closet swifty. Have fun with that! How about playing music, that's actually music and not made up from an algorithm based upon the most popular beats in order to make $$$... How about a novel approach to just make great music!...Grrr!

I believe my eyes and my ears. What was alleged in the sm post regarding the band at the game was not rooted in reality.

This stupid band story has already received more media attention than the MSU staffs multiple DUI’s and their campus civil rights investigation. Hilarious.

I'm not dying on this hill especially since I didn't make it down for a game this year but I'm Canadian and even I am surprised when they still trot out Raise A Little Hell. Also "a mock up of Boston and the Osmonds" might be the kindest thing anybody has ever said about Trooper, including their own publicist.

Were you not at the game? Cotton Eyed Joe was absolutely played.

Once. Not after every touchdown as the letter alleges
Two problems here:
1) Your original post on this thread said the band NEVER played CEJ. You now admit that's false.
2) The original letter said that CEJ would be payed after A score, not every score, as you're now alleging.

Not that any of this actually matters. Just get your story straight.

Get rid of all canned music. There, problem solved.

Agree, or at least re-eval what Canned gets played. Cotton Eyed Joe, and Country Boy have seen there day! In fact these songs I find totally annoying! Maybe the band ought to likewise re-eval what gets played. At any rate if forced to pick, it would be band 70%, decent Canned 30%.

1. I didn't recall it being played, but if it was it was.

2. Your interpretation of that sentence differs from mine, and I would think from that of most anyone reading it. What's more, CEJ is almost ALWAYS played after a GRIZ TD. Nothing new there.

That said, I really don't think most people give a shit, so I'm out.

Well, that's that for me, then. He acknowledged that the notice was not handled well. And that someone had a face to face w the band. So, ok, moving on for me.

This whole story is dumb. Its a FOOTBALL GAME, not a band recital. They can pound sound. They did what was needed to keep the crown ferocious the whole game. If we play the cats again, they should go with the same strategy as far as I'm concerned.

Not to mention, these CHANGES!!!!! we're just for THIS game. Much ado about nothing.

Would there be a marching band without football?

Military Marching Bands have been around since the 1600s--if not earlier.

Gotta be the worst job in the service. Going into battle; musket, musket, sword, musket, tuba, musket, lance, musket....
