Did EWU Make Coaching Mistake to Keep Passing Late in Game?

You guys are missing the point. EWU might have been better off running for 3 downs, running the clock down, punting, and not throwing an interception and stopping the clock on incompletions.

The thread was not a question about whether EWU is a better passing or running team.

Understood. In hindsight yes they would have been further ahead grinding out three runs and a punt with the maximum time between snaps. Yet I don't think they expected 3 plays and a punt. I suspect the EWU coaches fully believed they could utilize their normal offense (ie... passing game) to grab some first downs and burn more time in lieu of their ineffective running game.

So, that begs the question: why didn't it work in the 4th quarter when it worked so effectively in the FIRST three quarters? Did we make 4th quarter adjustments instead of the vaunted halftime adjustments?

Did Baldwin make a mistake to keep being, or become aggressive again, and start throwing the ball late in the game?

I thought EWU would win if they just sat on the ball and took some time off the clock?

But they didn't, and helped let UM back in the game.

I definitely felt the passing was a mistake, but remember SDSU ran the ball in 2009 and those 3&outs helped increase our momentum.

The EW passing attack was very efficient and the 2 dropped balls (I think on 3rd down) did not help the cause.

Umm....EWU did take their foot of the gas and tried to run out the clock and it almost cost them...

Look at the first 2 possessions of the 4th quarter for EWU, they ran on both First and Second down to start each series and went 3 and out both times. Before those series, they never ran on first and second down the entire game to start the series....

Baldwin is a Great coach and actually should have kept Easterns foot on the gas instead of trying to run the clock that early in the 4th quarter. I don't think the Griz would have made it close if EWU hadn't tried to start running clock (tough to make an up-tempo offense purposely slow down), but thats just my opinion.
