Did Anyone See That................

Don't we need to be able to kick field goals in close and especially late season game (i.e play off games)? If we don't put our kickers in pressure situations don't we also limit their experience to come through when we need them.

I appreciate the concern with bad kicking and the macho nature of going for it--but doesn't winning football in the clutch require the ability to put three on the board.

...and while we're at it, Tinkle needs to recruit just shooters and chuck it every time from beyond the arc. It's all in the math man.

Yep 2 point field goals and free throws in basketball are for pu$$!e$. Basketball is the only sport where scoring three point field goals is not a sign of weakness and lack of confidence in your offense.

One could make the argument for this theory, however, it has been proven false by nothing but solid facts by the best football brains on the whole world wide web.

:jack:

The only time a team should ever kick a FG is with less than 5 seconds on the clock and to try and win the game.

Any other attempt is giving points away to the other team, its just math.

Its not like I have changed my opinion over the last 10 years on this point. You guys just keep setting the bar lower and enjoying mediocrity. You deserve it

well then every coach at every level is fine with mediocrity too. because there is not a single team in the country that agrees with your "philosophy" on fg's. hell, even your beloved bison kick field goals and not once has it been in the last 5 seconds to win a game.

care to list any coaches in college or the nfl that subscribe to your line of thinking? :o

And not a single one of those coaches is undefeated for his career either. Nuff said. Ha.

Touchdown that won the game in overtime?

Touchdowns win games not loser FGs. Great calls all day on 4th down, going for it and trying to win the game. One player even said that on the field after the game.

He is right.

I disagree with us going for it on 4th down, except in shootouts when you need to keep up. Obviously we had to go for it on the last drive during regulation. In low scoring games, you take what ever points you can get. Too much chance of a momentum swing when you miss the 4th down opportunity. Even Walsh noted we are a momentum team and we gave momentum back multiple times when we could have had points.
I have to admit I am not a Delaney fan, so I question everything he does just like you did Hauck. I feel our team was not prepared to play Cal Poly and we did not make good half time adjustments and I feel there was also a lot of strange play calling. We barely beat a 3-4 team at home. Good chance CP will be a sub 500 team at the end of the year. IMO, Griz beat CP because of the heart of some Griz players recruited by others (not to mention homer call by ref) and not because the current coaching staff made great choices.

Alpha is spot on with this. I'll have to do some research but I'm almost positive that no team has ever won a game where they kicked a field goal on 4th down in the middle of the game. Obviously it's better to not score at all than to take the measly 3 points. What the hell is wrong with you people? It's like most of you have never played the game or something.
