Delirious McGoo -- Medical Redshirt?

Jason White at Oklahoma comes to mind as someone who was granted a 6th year due to injuries.

Damn! I was going to use the Stephen Sir example. Guy's career lasted 6 years at two schools with one RS (transfer year) and one Medical RS after playing in less than 30% of his team's games.

I could have sworn Ramses Barden played for about 8 straight years.

and also another example of how many times it's the idiot fans that take this rivalry to a whole other level where many times the actual players and coaches are all class. :o

Correct. Off the top of my head, Wilson is the only player that I can recall if was able to get a 6th year, in recent history. Even grey shirts don't get 6 years. Generally, they start in the spring and finish in the fall (instead of starting in the fall and ending in the fall)--so they are on the team only 5 years. This assumes that Ochs didn't redshirt at Colo.

Besides the point that there's plenty of football teams that consider a number of individuals sixth year seniors anyways?

For instance, a Case Keenum of Houston < http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=6022570" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Louisian Tech having three in the same year: a WR and two OL < http://www.thenewsstar.com/article/20130824/SPORTS/308240013/Tech-s-sixth-year-players-savoring-opportunity" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

A Safety at Oregon by the name of Steven Christian < http://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/index.ssf/2013/03/oregon_state_football_senior_s.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

There's plenty of examples across the board from Rutgers to Florida as well. The above but a small sampling, really.

I just heard from a big time Cat supporter, who told me he has heard that McGee is done that he will not be back unless he can get medical redshirt.
Oh man, that would be bad news for a stellar career. Rotator cuffs are the worst from the standpoint of unpredictability and chronic persistence. One reason we admire these athletes so much is that they are out there taking risks, playing the game, and sometimes the risks catch up.

Mick Delaney did a very classy thing, and for a classy young man. It's easy to forget that what happens off the field is as important as what happens on the field. We call it a "game," but it really isn't.
