Delaney...is this guy for real?

From the missoulian, Delaney's quote on going for the TD in the 4th.

"The game was tied at that time so we felt if we didn't get it they had 99 and a half yards to go, even though we hadn't slowed them down a whole lot. You know if you kick the field goal and happen to miss it - we've been struggling with that - man you go out to the 20. It's like a turnover and you're deflated."

Does stupid just inadvertently fall out of his mouth when he opens it, or does he actually believe the things he says?

No it doesn't. In college football the ball is spotted at the original line of scrimmage.

That's my point! Delaney thought it went out to the 20. Unbelievable...

There's a pile of "delaneyisms" out there now. I'm not sure how much it really matters at this point. Enablers now say "we called him"... :egriz:

Willie, Willie, Willie won't. Willie won't. Willie won't.

Tsk, tsk. It thought you are or had been an official? Better brush up on your rules!

From the NCAA rule book:

On an unsuccessful field goal attempt, if the ball is untouched by Team B after crossing the neutral zone and is declared dead beyond the neutral zone, the postscrimmage kick spot is:
(a) The previous spot, if the previous spot is on or outside Team B’s 20-yard line; (A.R. 10-2-3-V)
(b) Team B’s 20-yard line, if the previous spot is between Team B’s 20-yard line and its goal line.

I believe an apology to Micky D. is in order.

I know I certainly owe him one. After he decided to basically run out the clock at the end of regulation I went on a rant.... When will I learn not to post in anger?!?!?

No, that was stupid. No apology for that. If they had not run the ball then after Henderson's catch they could have kicked (oh and probably missed) a field goal. It was a give-up play if there ever was one.

When the hell did I ever say that? Good Lord. You stalk me or something?

And no. This entire coaching staff needs to disappear.

I posted this...apparently the stupid falls out of my mouth! But seriously, is that really the rule? I did a quick search before posting and everyone in our group (who also are all apparently more stupider than Delaney) were not aware of that rule.

If so, Mick, my apologies.

Great Moments in eGriz History....

Calling out dumb with wrong.

Agreed. It's a very basic college football rule that has been in place for a long long time. The only change in the rule, decades ago, was changing the rule to start at the previous spot after missed FG from outside the 20. Prior to that all missed FG's resulted in starting from the 20.

This rules been around for a while. Many coaches do not even use it. But I'm sure sac would have. As the referee will say....coach you have options....what would you like? If the coach doesnt know, they prob wont get the better situation

No times 100. The ball gets placed at the 20. Document the next time you see this done wrong in a college game and I'll give you $100. It is a basic rule and all referees know it.

EGRIZ is EGRIZ still. I hope he believes this one and not those with a just a little understanding of the rules.

Rule is essentially the same in highschool. Only caveat is that the ball must reach the end zone, and regardless where it is kicked ball is placed on the 20. Had this happen multiple times over my coaching career.

The sum total of what fans know about the rules of college and high school football is best represented by a drop water in the Berkeley pit.

There are a ton of college coaches that should be included in this as well.

And yes the kicking game is a crap show at times. On that too Delaney is correct. But that would conflict with the narrative that they are idiots.

Ya, the play was still a bad decision in my opinion but I probably didn't need to call Delaney a tool. Oops....my bad.
