Delaney announces his retirement

When Mick took the helm, the ship be sinking (under the weight of bad publicity, I think it was something to do with a sextant...) He kept a steady hand on the rudder and helped the team weather the storm. He leaves us on calm seas and 40 feet of waterline, nicely making way. Thanks Captain!

I think he was a great hire for the aftermath of the Pflu debacle, but this is good news.
I wish him well. Guy, send him out w a win against the Cats!

Go Griz!

A heartfelt thank you to coach Delaney for everything he has done for the Grizzlies over the past few years. Enjoy your retirement, and enjoy being a fan now instead of a coach!

I'm beaming with confidence right now. Gotta give props to Delaney for doing this. I hope the next guy is just as stern as Delaney because I like the trajectory of the program off the field. One thing is for sure, we need a coach who hates the Cats like BH did. No more of this double Dutch Ruddering with Ron Ash.

That would have to be a former GRIZ or former Cat coach let go under turmoil.
ISU has the later in Mike Kramer. I really am liking the suggestion of Marty Morningwheg (sp?). I am sure he has invested wisely during his time in the NFL. He likely would not be looking to jump ship quickly, or at all. The man sure in the hell knows offense, and finding match ups to take advantage of. Too bad he is partnered with a stubborn Ryan with the Jets.

I'd also like to see Lex Hillard apply to be an assistant coach here. I have a feeling his playing days are over. I think he would make a solid RB coach, and definitely would instill GRIZ pride into the players. I also hope, no matter what, we keep Justin Green aboard.

It's already been said but thanks for your dedication and hard work coach Delaney. He approached it with class and integrity and that's what kind of players he has. I hope retirement serves you as well as you did The University of Montana.......now get to work and kick ass on some kittens :thumb:

Go Griz!!

Those are good suggestions. Not sure how old Marty is, but I'd like to see younger guy get the nod. I personally don't like it when coaches look like they are about to keel over.

Obviously, the UM gig is the yacht experience at our level. It's great that we weathered the perfect storm, and that the program is no longer covered with the barnacles that it might have been a few years back. I think we're a locks to hire a great coach who will have us back to the high water mark very soon.

Very well put, EG. I have complete confidence that the next guy will be the anchor we need to win another NC soon, like, preferably before the deadrise and start walking the streets.

Gotta give AG1 and a few others who posted this would happen during Cat Week credit for their "inside" info haha..

I know Dave Dickinson most likely will turn the position down, BUT, if Kent Haslam is worth his salt as an AD, which I believe he is, then he will, at the very least, take a plane ride to Calgary and make an in-person pitch to DD. Yes, again, it's a long, long shot, and yes, DD has said many times to Scott Mansch that he most likely would NOT take the job. But no matter how many times he's said it, I think it's on Kent to still make on STRONG sales pitch.
do you realize that DD is in line for a HC job in the CFL ? Do you realize what kind of a pay cut he would take by coming back to UM ?

Thanks Mick for your service to Griz football, most of us have been really critical of you, but the thank you is sincere. We will be behind you and hope to send you out with a victory over the Cats, and maybe, just maybe, a nice playoff run here to end your career!!

Happy trials, Mick. Here's to you having fair winds and following seas as you sail off into retirement.

Could you have possibly meant "Happy trails"?

"Happy trials" seems a little ominous.

Mick, thank you for what you have done. You brought stability to a program going through some rough stuff and did a wonderful job. The Griz were honored to have you as their coach. Congrats on retirement. Beat the Cats and a couple other teams, then go take a well deserved break!
