Defensive Scheme

Georgia’s base defense is a 4-2-5 hybrid with situational 3 down looks. This has already been covered. I think Rob said it 2 or 3 times, I have twice and Hoops has mentioned it as well.

Whatever you want to think. It’s a 3-4 base. He uses the 4-2-5 most of the time, but the base is a 3-4.

Actually, as I already pointed out twice, their base defense is the 4-2-5
You sure? I always remember Smart running their base out of a 3 man front with the ability to be very multiple depending on what they want to do. I know some people like to us AI for answers, and I'm not saying you are, but I've found it's a skeptical source at best.

I hate AI. But I posted a pretty good article earlier in this thread about their defense. And no, it wasn’t about video games lol

Why can’t you see that the lopsided record against the neighbors in the last decade is important? Is it because you didn’t go to UM? You are incredibly out of touch with why this is important.

Get off your holier-than-thou ivy league pedestal.
Even if you remove the fact that they are our in state rivals the fact that we struggle beating another top conference opponent that we have to play every year creates issues, especially when it comes to postseason. Good luck trying to get a actual discussion about it though.

I just tired of his schtick. I don’t think he actually cares and just wants to feel important.

You are right, I think the confusion is in how we are defining base. On the roster and depth chart the defense is organized in a 3-4 structure so it is a 3-4 personnel base. Since most of Georgia’s opponents play 11 personnel, the alignment you see them play most often on the field is the 4-2-5.

Well, it sure looks like you can compete with the cats with a front with 3 D Lineman with their hands in the dirt. Just need four or six of the DL @ 270+ lbs

cats rushing: 101 yards with no RB or QB over 50 yards
Birds rushing: 160 yards with one RB at 126 yards

And the cats secondary had no answer for Dylan Lord (4) for the Birds.

ISU’s front 3 average 285 pounds. Wish we could say the same. And here I was told those kind of D linemen are not available at our level.

Why wouldn’t they be available at our level? ISU isn’t the only MVFC team that big on the defensive front. It is fairly common among the top MVFC teams. I believe UND and SDSU were a lot bigger than we were in the trenches this season. NDSU has had big guys up front their entire championship run. Perhaps they meant to say those kind of D lineman are not available at this level when your strength coach has a journalism degree.

No idea. That’s just what a certain head coach of a certain football team at a large university in Western Montana said during an interview several years ago.

I’m guessing it wasn’t Bob Stitt because he saw NDSU’s massive front his first game in Missoula.

I can, but that's one team and there are many other teams and a long season. The Griz are 13-2 and will be ranked no. 3 in the nation. Why can't you see that? Griz have been ranked no. 3 or higher post-season once since about 2009. Are you blind, prejudiced or just stupid about football? I know you think the season revolves around the Cats, but I don't, nor do most people who understand football. This is my gripe with you. You don't understand football. You just don't. I understand football, and you don't. I played at a high level and you didn't. You make some of the dumbest posts.

You don't know what you are talking about. What's the game and do some researched.

Their personnel base on the roster and depth chart is based around the 3-4 but the 4-2-5 is what they use the most on the field because they typically face 11 personnel. They also use the 3-3-5 alignment situationally.

5280, weren't the one talking about the formula to beat the Cats and MV teams, of just winning the run game, TOP and maybe one of other thing. Ill St dominated in those areas, and didn't win. There's no formula. It changes year to year, game to game, and team to team. And passing and ST are very important. It's not just running and run D.

This is one of the reasons I don't think you know much about the game of football.

Okay, so why can't you just go with that. I'm okay with that. As I have said, I have been attending Georgia games in Athens for 25 years, my son is a bigger fan of Georgia, and we watch a ton of Georgia games.
