Decommits happen everywhere

There's been some discussion on this board lately about our recent decommitts, and speculation as to what is happening and why some of these folks are jumping ship.

This happens every single year. We are often fortunate to get some early verbal commitments from 2 and 3-star recruits. Often times, someone notices these same guys and recruits them hard, too. Some stay, some go. This happens at every single program in both FCS and FBS.

Our neighbors to the east are having a rough one today. Lost Sims to us, lost one of their biggest DE recruits in Rasheed Williams to Idaho St, and now just learned they lost their #1 OL recruit Austin Webb to Hawaii. I'm sure they are feeling like someone kicked them in the nuts, much like folks acted around here when we learned of Neale, Kamron, Tyree Range, etc. it happens folks. We got some great recruits who may or may not pan out. So do they. So does the rest of our competition in the Big Sky.

From what I'm seeing, we have the top 4 MT recruits, a number of big-time out of state recruits, and kids that have said they are coming our way as a direct result of the attitude, demeanor, and vision of our new head coach. Things are just fine Griz Nation.....in fact I'd say they are more than fine! Go Griz!

I have heard speculation that KamRon is going to NAU, but I've not seen anything solid posted anywhere. Do you have a link? Thanks.

I will say that we sure have lost our fair share of touted prospects, but I really like our class. It amazes me how little is mentioned of Josh Sandry from Bigfork. I can only assume that is because he didn't play against better competition. He is going to be a stud safety here in the mold of Colt Anderson, etc. He isn't even mentioned among Montana's top 4 prospects, but I bet if you talked to coaches you would hear a different tune.

Well after reading the tea leaves of BN nation, how little they realize the Ryan family are...err were Cat Fans

You are spot on, some say Sandry was definitely one of the top 5 MT recruits. So that means we may have gotten the top 5 in our home state. On top of that, the out of starters are some legit kids. And there's always a surprise or two. I have no other info on Kamron but the speculation is NAU.

I don't know how you can get worked up about "losing" a kid who you just happened to be the first to offer. Some of these decommits people are agonizing about were offered by Montana way before anyone else caught up to them.
A young athlete, who has never been offered a college scholarship receives his first offer and .... surprise! He accepts. Then he gets a half dozen more and selects a different school. Yeah, that's the way it goes.

Yea but the kitties got all the best walk on's.

PrepAZ says Kamron took an official visit to NAU this past weekend, but no mention of an offer, let alone a decommit/commit change. NAU is not even listed in his schools of interest, but that can change.

Three stories below about Montana pulling offers from players. Happens both ways.

Yep, college football is big business and that sucks sometimes for some people. If it wasn't there wouldn't be all the money for offers to get pulled on occasion and you wouldn't have prospects decommitting to get better deals either. Wouldn't it be sweet if it was all unicorns and rainbows, fruit snacks and participation ribbons? Growing up really bites.

Even in Missoula. One more day of angst & elation, disappointment & pleasant surprise, all leading to a collective sigh of relief such that we can move on to spring FB. Best of luck to everyone, unless you're playing in WaGriz in another jersey some day. Then I say unapologetically, I hope you get mauled good. Go Griz.

Once again, "Verbal Commitment" = "Promise Ring". I promise to like you. At least until something better comes along.........

Since im banned from BN...and they thought I was completely full of shit when I refer to the Stitt Effect....well here is probably the best comment from their board giving an example of what the Stitt Effect is....its a difficult confusion to diagnose...you know it when you see it, but still it keeps you in an angry state of stupor and disbelief...the Bobcats are slowly coming down with symptoms of THE STITT EFFECT...enjoy....

I agree with this, and am normally okay with this, as the recruiting tides generally ebbs and flows. The thing that makes this year so rough is that I was not expecting Stitt to come in and recruit Montana for basically a month and land pretty much all of the high end talent.

It would be interesting to know the inside scoop on what swayed guys like Sims, Ryan, Daum...etc to commit to UM. Was it the facilities upgrades? Is Stitt just a great recruiter? Did MSU coaches slack off? Were recruits turned off by all of the fire Ash/Marshall/Fields threads on BN? All or none of the above

What I find amusing is that when a recruit flips TO us, we're giddy....when one flips AWAY from us, we (myself included  ) are shocked, apalled, etc.

Daum (MSU)
Sims (OSU)
Cobey Eaton (Air Force)

To name a few....

It is no secret to anyone outside Bozeman...........................these guys want to play highend D1 ball and not a half step above the Frontier conference. Period, the end
