We are witnessing right here on egriz the problem with seating controversy. is there an easy solution? Hell no, but there is a solution. Giving both sides of this the benefit of the doubt, I have noted it before, and will again. It needs to be an expectation for whoever is in those seats to make noise, and have fun.
For every argument about the students only being there for good games, good teams, and if we are winning. Give it a break, those same damn things exist with the people with the money, too. Does it make it any more right, wrong to not be there, because your pocket book speaks louder? Sorry, but the eliteists that feels it is different for them, that is BS!! It is also BS some of the pocket book talkers think their money can dictate what other fans can or cannot do at the games.
I don't care where I am sitting, and who is near me, rather it be football, or basketball, I am there to get loud, and show my support as loud as I want, and stand, or sit. If you don't like, your pocket book gives you no right to bitch, either!!!
I wish Mick's, and Tinkle's pregame over the tournament could be played here again. All in good nature they talked about the environment and how some fans needed to be taught how to act for the sake of bettering the environment. I wish I could remember Tinkle's exact quote, but it was right on the money, and he said without offending anyone, or siding with either. In my words/interpretation of what he said "It is college basketball, not some sort of assylum." Meaning, quiet is not part of the equation at college basketball.
By the way, I do know some people that refuse to buy better seats for the season, and a good reason why? The few times they have sat in the better seats, the environment stunk, and they do not want to part of, or around rude stuck up attitudes!!!
They prefer to sit in areas they can have fun, and not be ridiculed for being loud, or being told to "shut up" or "sit the fuck down." One of my friend's brought his parents and few of their friends to a GRIZ game a few years ago, about a group of 12. Of the 12, 8 of them were 60, or older. A certain group of "priveledged" GRIZ fans did not like their view was being blocked. They politely told them, "we are here to cheer the team on, why don't you join in the fun? The support is good for team."
The bitching continued, finally 2 of the older couples in the group of 12 turned around, and told them, "We are just as old, if not older than you, we too have health issues, but if we can do it, so can you. If you don't like it go find another place to sit, we are here to do what we do best."
Funny part is about 1/2 dozen of those fans went and sat else where, meanwhile another few dozen joined in the fun, and it was a great time for all.
Since then, they refuse to sit in any are of fans that don't knpw how to liven it up, so they sit in the 2nd level all the time now. Yet, that experience is the reason they won't or don't give more, than they do.
