I think that Ferris State squad could compete with almost anyone in FCS. Size, speed, talent…if they stopped shooting themselves in the foot and had a QB that could hit the broad side of a barn, they’d be lethal.

I think if that were true, they wouldn't routinely play one score games against other D2 football teams.

Does that not make sense to you? Or how would you account for that?

They don’t, actually. Last year they were 14-1, with victory margins of 16, 22, 66, 31, 5, 8, 36, 21, 26, 34, 3, 3, 21 and 27 (those last 4 were playoff games).

Maybe there’s other D2 schools that are in the same boat as far as talent? They’ve won two consecutive D2 championships, have won something like 28 out of their last 30, and are VERY accustomed to winning. They did NOT come here expecting to lose. Comparing scores to OTHER games that play out differently is a fools errand.

Right, and so five games last year were one score wins and a loss.

Right, and in their 10-1 regular season 2 of their 10 wins were one score wins. So, no, they don’t “routinely” play one score games against D-2 competition.

Thank you ... beat me to it.

It would be...Ferris, GVS, NW Missouri State, Pitt State, Mines...all very good teams. And, yes - this current Griz team would, in fact, be in a dog fight in the D2 bracket this season.

With all of the resources that are at the disposal of MSU or UM, that should be a totally unacceptable reality.

By resources, I assume you also mean D2 on has 36 scholarships, 27 less than FCS.

24 ranked Florida A & M of the FCS took D2 #4 ranked West Florida to the woodshed 31-10 yesterday. I agree Ferris State is good, I preached since they were first seen on the schedule, but the narrative that they and others in the top of the D2 will compete consistently with the top 25 isn’t true.

This is one of the weirdest arguments I've ever heard. "Good teams always win by double digits against their peers" do you even watch football? I'm being serious.

You guys won 4 one-score games last year, some against BAD FCS teams. Holy shit, you must have been awful.

Ok so if you don't like the word "routinely" let me go back to my original point and rephrase:

If Ferris State is really of a quality that they could compete with just about anyone in the FCS (that was the original claim), then I don't think they would have played five games against D2 schools last year that resulted in one score games and one loss. I also don't think you'd see results like last week when they went to Ashland and won by 10.

Ferris didn’t lose to Ashland by 10.

Who said Ferris could compete with anyone in FCS?

Are you purposefully missing the point? Yes, obviously great teams at any level will play close games against peers. But the claim here is that Ferris isn't simply great for their level. They're supposedly great for the 1-AA level. Surely you're capable of following the thread.

So if Ferris State is really a high end FCS caliber team hiding in D2, you'd see that borne out in the results. That's the point.

Go back and follow the conversation.

But yes, good catch-- they won by 10, which is what I meant to write.

You're right, it's impossible for good teams to play bad games, even when they're head and shoulders better than everyone else in their division.

I personally think Ferris could be a top 25 FCS team right now, and I also don't think you have a handle on what exactly that means. That doesn't mean they wouldn't get curb stomped by SDSU, and I certainly don't think they would compete for a NC, but on any given week they could put the fear of god into all but a handful of FCS teams.

If you don't feel that way, it's fine. I'm sorry us Griz fans aren't burning our season tickets and preparing for 2024 because of one game.

Like I said elsewhere, I actually think that may be true-- Ferris State could very likely be in the ~30 range in the FCS. I also think teams that are borderline ranked in the FCS mostly kind of suck. Like, if Rhode Island came to Bozeman, I'm expecting a 4 score win.

Look-- I am going to level for you. I am not under any illusions that I am going to convince any Griz fans to somehow abandon their fandom. And I actually like it when the Griz are a highly ranked power. It makes the Brawl so fun.

But 1) I like the arguing and back and forth. It's fun. 2) I am genuinely surprised that the Griz fan base is so willing to make excuses for this current staff. I find it interesting. I genuinely believe that if the coach had the same record but a different name, virtually the entire fan base would want him gone.

Yeah, we know you think Ferris sucks.

I don't think they do, and I think they would've beat all but maybe 3 or 4 Big Sky teams last night. I'd put them closer to top 20, too. Impossible to say for sure, however! (I'm sure you'll try, though  )

Nah I'm good. I've said what I've got to say.

Yeah, Haslam brought in nearly 27,000 for a D2 OOC game for a financially strapped University. Fire him. Scheduling is such an easy task,

Well there is no doubt the UM staff is way behind in the DUI department.

Wow lord veego.
Did you seriously just put that in writing? Do you read your crap before you press “submit”?

Is this next level trolling, or WAAC? I can’t tell. There’s no way you came here to preach about excuses for the coaching staff, is there?

Bubcatz are sooo disillusioned.

I think vidlak is showing all the tools, he just needs to have everything click. And it will click. People were saying he doesn't progress through reads, he definitely did that today. He moved incredibly well in the pocket multiple times. Our passing game is going to be very strong by the end of the season.

And McDowell is a stud. I'm a big fan of that kid. Not dissing him at all.

Do you have a crystal ball? That’s impossible to know.
