Lot of short memories here...

Carps wasn't great as a freshman.
Mcknight wasn't great as a freshman.
Snyder wasn't great as a freshman.

Here are the freshman years for 3 VERY good kickers that we've had, and Lider. See any similarities here?

Snyder
Fr - 16-25 (64%), 7-7 from 20-29, 5-8 from 30-39, 3-8 from 40-49, 1-2 from 50+ (LG 52)

Carpenter
Fr - 18-29 (62.1%), 4-7 from 20-29, 7-10 from 30-39, 7-10 from 40-49, 0-2 from 50+ (LG 49)

McKnight
Fr - 9-16 (56.2%), 3-5 from 20-29, 4-8 from 30-39, 2-3 from 40-49, (LG 46)

Lider
Fr - 15-21 (71.4%), 1-1 from under 19, 7-8 from 20-29, 2-6 from 30-39, 5-6 from 40-49 (LG 46)

Probably a good thing that we didn't give up on Snyder, Carpenter or McKnight huh? The same exact discussion was being had here on eGriz McKnight's freshman year too. We struggled big time with extra points in that year as well...to the point where we had Ferriter kick a couple extra points. Remember that?
+1 -- Best kicker we had as a freshman was Snyder -- and he wasn't automatic -- usually takes kickers a year or two -- from what I've seen.

Look, I am a man and I am smart enough to know that women are ruining football, its the main reason pro ball is not watchable anymore.

The NFL is catering to women because they buy merchandise and like QBs and WRs so they get the protection. There is market research to support this.

The saddest commentary on all of this is that a woman was allowed to have an opinion and people responded to it in any manner.

This country sucks because of it........AND WE STILL DONT HAVE ANY FU*KING SANDWICHES!!!!!

PR, I'm going to try and word this the right way. Is it your opinion that someone who never played or coached football should not post any observation or criticism? You and I have traded posts before and I usually make it clear I've never played when I state a criticism. I understand how you can get frustrated with a lot of posters on here, but truthfully you make me and I think others feel like we gotta walk on eggshells. I would guess a large percentage of football fans never played at the level they enjoy watching. But a lot of people (men and women) have picked up knowledge of the game through years (in my case 35) of following their team. GGNez even makes the point that she has learned a lot about the game this way. I don't find any problem with her thread. She obviously can recognize a good kick from a bad kick. There was a guy that made a thread yesterday where he was venting some frustration but then slipped into name calling. That I do not agree with. Even fans who have never played can recognize a good performance from a bad performance or a Brock Coyle from a third string linebacker. I don't believe one has to have played to provide constructive criticism of a players performance. In fact when we state our disappointment in a player, in this case Lider, for me it is because I know the guy is talented and can get it done. Anyway I'm getting to wordy. Just wanted to make a case that some of us have the learned the game other ways and that does not mean we could ever step on the field and perform like these guys do. I usually defer to other people that have played or coached to provide insight on what the better play call would have been or what defensive formation the team should have been in. If I post a criticism and I'm wrong in my assessment I have no problem with other posters with more knowledge providing me with cronstructive criticism. And it can be done on all sides without calling people idiots and such.

Done with my rant and run on paragraph.

In recent posts, I am just supporting GG, as she is my good friend and has been for years. I am not a PC person, but I don't like racist, sexist or homophobic people or posters. I don't like posters who unfairly hammer players and posters. As for football posting, I don't care what football experience posters have or haven't had, as long as they don't unfairly hammer players or coaches, or say dumb things. Some posters say things, occasionally or frequently, that show, to me, that they don't have a clue and never played the game. It's easy for me to spot that. If the posts are not hammering players or coaches, I usually don't comment, unless I think the poster is a jerk. I don't have any problem with your posts or your football knowledge. Do you agree with me that GG is a hotie, by the way. Yes, I do think that people who played the game and played it at upper levels, or played for the Griz, have a leg up in posting on football subjects, but many others who never played the game or didn't play in college or for the Griz, also have good football knowledge and are good posters. Get off the egg shells.

Good post - run-on and all. To tell the truth, with only a handful of exceptions, I couldn't tell from the posts here who has played or coached. I thought you had.

WOW nobody gives a fu*k what a washed up slimeball lawyer thinks.

Heres some news for you......your opinion isnt any better than anyone elses on here. You have the right to be the pompous jackass you are and they have the right to voice their opinions and comments on the team, remember its OUR team your a self admitted cat fan.

mikegriz, nope never played. Played H.S. basketball is all. My Grandfather played at the University of Kentucky and was going to be a New York Giant but WWII got in the way of that. He was a referee for H.S. football up until he passed away in his early 50s. Most of my football knowledge comes from him and my two uncles who both played H.S. football. My one uncle played baseball in college.

PR, I think I got it..I'll toss the eggshells in the garbage.

I've tried to not hammer the coach because he has been one of my favorite assistant coaches from the last few years. He does seem like a really nice guy. That said there have been some real head scratchers this season. The one that I noticed most recently was the Southern Utah game and the whole faked punt. Why did they have the guys back up off the line of scrimmage? Yesterday the only decision I wondered about at the time of it happening was the timeout call on 4th and 6 before the punt? If Mick stays on through the 2013 season I'm sure he'll work on improving game management just as I am sure the players will work on game execution.

Alpha, I think the next step for the NFL is to velcro two red flags to each players waist. Any contact beyond trying to deflag a player with the ball will be considered a penalty. Even the Super Bowl commercials have gotten boring. I have NFL Sunday ticket and don't even bother watching anymore. I generally can't stay awake due to the fact that the NFL has sacraficed running offenses and any type of hard hitting defense in order to highlight QBs.

Ok. In regards to posters and what they post. If I don't like it I ignore it. If I don't like them at all I put them on my ignore list. I don't think anyone is going to convert anyone else over to their way of thinking on here, but I don't have a problem with them trying.

Ok, I'm out of this conversation now..time to go back to simpler things like drinking beer, watching and talking football.

Dear Chris Lider:

I'm an old man. I've enjoyed great successes in my life, and I've endured the most painful failures. You're a young man with a great future ahead of you. My unsolicited advice to you is: Keep things in perspective. They are never as bad as they seem and are rarely as good. Let the past weekend's experience make you stronger so the next time you go out on the field you will be more capable of delivering than you were the last time. That's what Peter Nguyen did when he overcame his fumbleitis to become a fan favorite and this season's MVP. Most Griz fans are pulling for you to have a great career, and the one's who aren't should be ignored. I hope to see back out there next year. Best of Luck in the off-season and GO GRIZ!

Respectfully,

Bearister

Point taken. I was very frustrated the last couple of games when several short FG's were missed but could have expressed it differently.

That is a terrific post and very good advice. I think Lider is and will continue to be fine. And he had a better FG percentage than the last 3 great UM kickers.

umfootball, can you provide links to Lider blaming his missed kicks on elements, ect? I was in the press conference after the game and he wasn't one of the players selected for it. So where did he say all these things?

Lider is a good kicker. He easily has the distance. I've noticed in earlier games that his kicks angle off to the right. I knew it would burn him if he didn't get it corrected. I hope he works on his technique to get the ball more to the left. Of course he knows all this. Maybe he also has to learn to handle the pressure. He's got more seasons as a Griz, and I'm sure he will improve in all aspects.

Based on the fact that you don't agree with everything I say? The fact that I am willing to concede that somebody else has a point that makes sense? I am not afraid to voice my frustrations (same as everyone on eGriz), and also not afraid to learn from others or admit that there are viewpoints I could have considered before posting (exceptionally rare on eGriz). But stupid, I am not.

I have come the the conclusion that jcu27 is somewhat of a jerk. Moving on....

Have you met her? Just wondering. She seemed pretty bright in real life. I can see not agreeing with everything she posts, but I'd say there are posters on here that are poster children for "stupid". That doesn't include you jcu27.

Don't give up on Chris Lider yet and here is your next kickers name.....Harrison Greenberg !

GO GRIZ ! ! !

Haven't given up on him - extremely frustrated by recent missed FG's though. Not giving up on Mick D either, for that matter. Considering this a learning season for many. I saw some footage of Greenberg - holy s*it, he is a force to be reckoned with! Looking forward to the Fall already.

Thanks, KM, and I can't imagine there would be much purpose for a discussion board if people agreed with everything everyone else posted. That's why we're here....to read and discuss various opinions and perspectives.

GG is smart, and a very good writer. I have known her for years and worked with her for several years.

Yup, started reading the book she gave to my wife and I. It is good. I hope to finish it on Thanksgiving in between dinner, football and naps! :thumb:

Who were you watching kickoff all year? He has terrible distance. Don't get me started on his lack of ability to keep the ball in the field of play on kickoffs.
