The only kicker I've felt worse for was that kid from Boise St. two years ago.

Come on guys, give her a break she drank Oly today. Plus lets all search our past posts and see how many of you got down on a specific player in the past. Read: Tully and Hermanson. Oh wait I forgot you guys are all flawless fans..nevermind.

Go Griz!
Oregon's kicker shot up into that list tonight.

:(

I see posts all of the time naming and dissing the QBs. There is a thread calling out the o-line as well. It's no secret who those players are. We call them "kids" and I do feel bad for them when they lose or miss a catch or a kick....but that is part of the spotlight, IMO, and they are young men. If they get to be named and made heroes when they succeed, then something as blatant as a kicker missing several chip shot FG attempts in more than one game is likely to catch some grief and be the target of a little venting.

Kicking FGs is 90% mental. I am sure this kid will be thinking about these misses all winter long. I hope he can get his confidence back, but it will be a struggle for sure. Many a potentially great kicker has succumbed to the yips caused by missing a couple of chip shots.

It's pretty simple. Move on and get better or next guy in line picks up the flag. Harsh, but this is big boy football.

Not sure if he is a senior but I hear there is a kid a Butte High with ice in his veins. :)

Hey GG, do you think you could learn how to throw a football???

Seriously, leave the kids names out of it. They're playing football and schooling. Did you have an athletic scholarship when attending college? If you really want to kick something, kick Alpha.
No, I suck at throwing a football and did not come anywhere near earning an athletic scholarship. Fortunately for everyone posting on eGriz, those things are not required in order to discuss the game. Again, part of being out there in the spotlight is being critiqued and having your performance evaluated. Point taken about using players names but I can't vent about missed FGs w/out doing so.

1. I don't think Lider is "terrible" but I think we should be able to count on our kicker to make at least most chip shots. I have faith he will improve, as will the whole team.
2. Don't feel sorry for me that Alpha gives me shit every day - he is a dick to everyone and I would feel like I was doing something wrong if he wasn't an a-hole to me.
3. As a writer with future career in politics, I take criticism every day and if someone playing college ball can't take criticism and learn and grow from it, he shouldn't be playing.
4. Yes, I do have kids. And I have raised them to do their best, roll with the punches and take constructive criticism as a learning tool and grow from it. It is the kids who are told they are great no matter what and given trophies for participating, IMO, who struggle the most in the real world.

A future career in politics? Uh, I would not count on winning!
I don't count on winning - can only try. And I DO count on being disliked by about 1/2 of the voters and to be criticized and judged. If I couldn't take it, I wouldn't choose a political path. Or post on eGriz.

When the kicker misses FGs kinda hard not to discuss it without everyone knowing who you are talking about.

I remember Carps taking some heat after missing the potential game winner vs. Wofford in 2007, which was pretty much a chip shot for him. He moved on. Brody became a great kicker after a not so stellar freshman year. They are big boys they can take a little criticism. Lider will come back better next season.

Lot of short memories here...

Carps wasn't great as a freshman.
Mcknight wasn't great as a freshman.
Snyder wasn't great as a freshman.

Here are the freshman years for 3 VERY good kickers that we've had, and Lider. See any similarities here?

Snyder
Fr - 16-25 (64%), 7-7 from 20-29, 5-8 from 30-39, 3-8 from 40-49, 1-2 from 50+ (LG 52)

Carpenter
Fr - 18-29 (62.1%), 4-7 from 20-29, 7-10 from 30-39, 7-10 from 40-49, 0-2 from 50+ (LG 49)

McKnight
Fr - 9-16 (56.2%), 3-5 from 20-29, 4-8 from 30-39, 2-3 from 40-49, (LG 46)

Lider
Fr - 15-21 (71.4%), 1-1 from under 19, 7-8 from 20-29, 2-6 from 30-39, 5-6 from 40-49 (LG 46)

Probably a good thing that we didn't give up on Snyder, Carpenter or McKnight huh? The same exact discussion was being had here on eGriz McKnight's freshman year too. We struggled big time with extra points in that year as well...to the point where we had Ferriter kick a couple extra points. Remember that?

If I have told you once I have ................^

The real thing that matters is this. Lider hit the right post on the extra point attempt. He was right on the first field goal try (by inches). If coaches have ball/brains they take all of this in to account. This was the perfect game for two fake field goals. Make the first down or sneak into the end zone we get 7 points.

Take a chance coach. We did not fake much of anything the entire season. This was the perfect time to pull off a slick sneaky play.

I passed out in the fourth quarter. Did we win?

While I don't like this post/thread, I find it interesting that a bunch of you posters will hammer "the girl" for her comment, yet don't have the balls to defend Nguyen (and other players), or hammer Alpha, when Alpha is unfairly hammering him/them. Talk about a bunch of pussies.

Scoring is only part of the issue I have with Lider. I don't feel his leg is strong enough. Teams end up with better field position than they should. Compare him all you want to the great Griz kickers of the past, but they were able to consistently put the ball in the end zone on the kick off.

No, he is not THE reason we lost yesterday. He is however part of the reason. We had lots of struggles yesterday and as some have mentioned, the final score shows that those two missed kicks wouldn't have mattered, but I think the argument can also be made that if the score is 13-13 the cats have to approach that last scoring drive of the game a lot differently. Woulda coulda shoulda I suppose, but Lider needs to improve or he needs to be replaced. The same can be said for other aspects of the team, but that's for another post.

I think it has more to do with Alpha not deserving the time of day when he goes off on that tangent and most people realizing that without Peter we would be far worse off than we are with him.

PR, I knew you wouldn't like this one and, frankly, I could have expressed my frustration in a less sarcastic manner and without mentioning a player's name (though it would have been obvious who I was talking about).

But you are correct about the difference in response that I often get and it shows a bias or prejudice against my gender. Some infuse a negative or "bitchy" tone into my analyses when there isn't one intended. Some approach my opinions with the predisposition that I don't know anything about life or football. And some think I simply have no place in a "men's conversation" so try to undermine my words or chase me out of here. A few have privately apologised to me or expressed embarrassment over the others' blatant misogyny but none have the balls to publicly point it out. Except you. Thanks, PR.

three points: first, plenty of people call alpo out for his stupidity regarding women, second, you must be confusing greenie for someone else, because his stances on various rape allegations, etc, have been pro-football player and dismissive of women, and three, the majority of lider's misses have been chip shots in 'pressure' situations. what's up with that?

I have defended Delaney and stand by my opinion that he should stay and finish his contract and the people should NOT unduly blame every aspect of every loss on one man. I believe that this is a learning year and have 100% confidence that, if he does stay, Mick will have a much improved plan and team next year. I don't like people calling for his firing or resignation.

I feel the same about Lider (or any other specific player or coach). I am frustrated that several chip-shots were missed in critical games by our starter. I don't think Lider should be off the team, is the sole reason for any loss,or that he has no future and I think a player can take criticism after a poor performance. I think he needs practice and growth (like Mick).

If you are unable to understand my point, I'm happy to clarify. But, if this post is "stupid", it wouldn't warrant so many responses with varying opinions. I don't give a shit if you agree or disagree with any of them. The point is to start a conversation. And, I will "stop talking" when I choose to, not because you think I should or are unable to grasp the meaning of my words.
