Davidson game thread

Citay, I'd add one addendum to your list of blunders (or at least it worked out to be a blunder for the Griz): The 3-point brick that Davidson threw up that damn near wedged between the support bracket and the backboard, and then somehow dropped through. That shot gave me pain.

everett: yes, that was a huge turning point. i watched that clunker of a shot, and then immediately shifted attention to the two griz waiting under the basket to see which would get the rebound. next thing i know, the crowd is cheering. i still can't believe it went in.

YES!!! I did the exact same thing! I was at a bar watching with a group of Griz fans, and half the people were wondering why the hell ESPN put up 3 more points for D. As you said, that shot was SO bad that you just assumed it wasn't going in, and since the board would have been all Griz, your attention just sort of went elsewhere for a moment.

He does not look pretty worn out. Normally he is elated to be watching his kids play. Good thing we have a week between games after that trip. I am sure the players are pretty worn out too.

I was watching this game live and saw the camera go to him and his wife. Immediately I thought he must be thinking "What happpeded to us this weekend..we had so much promise, and now this"...---Will's injury.

I can tell you this .. that look was on Tinks face from the moment Cherry limped off the court.. It was a very sad day for the Tinkle family because Will and Mathias are a part of them.. Will 's was tougher cause he could have took the year off, but both Wayne and Will are competitors! The look in this photo doesn't reflect Wayne being tired, but it absolutely reflects Wayne being sad and sick that Will's injury took place? Love all 3 Tinkle, Ward, and the best PG to play for the Griz Will Cherry! Its very sad, but we must move foward because we still have the talent to do some damage! :thumb:

Yeah, Davidson was just too tough, all right. Of course, that was only with two of the three best Griz players essentially unavailable. I think we saw during the, what, 17 minutes Cherry got to play who the better team was. Put Ward in there and the Griz win that thing by 15.

I do think the GRIZ would have pulled it out with Ward in there. I honestly don't see him making a difference against Cohen in the 1st half, who is also a candidate for the Lou Henson award. I do feel Cherry would have stopped a few of their perimeter players though. All we needed was one more stop in regulation. Actually we had the stop, but somehow by the Grace of God they laid a golden brick. I was watching the game in HD and surround sound going. I heard a thud on that shot. Thought for sure he missed it, then next thing I know that brick went down. A brick like that very seldom goes in. :thumb:

Cohen is an ubelievable player.

But how about Tinks' coaching ability, to make changes to completely shut the guy down in the 2nd half?!What did he have, one bucket? That was a TREMENDOUS job by Wayne and the staff.

And yes, I think the Griz win by double digits with Ward, and Will for 35 minutes. Figure Ward stops conservatively 1/3 of Cohen's first half points, and scores a few himself, and that's a ten point win.

And yes, that brick that fell was the difference in the game. That shot (if you can call it a shot) made me hurt all over.

Everettgriz, that is possible. Unfortunately, Will's 1st half foul trouble was of his own doing. I do think he got screwed on one of his fouls though. I am thinking with Will and Ward we win that one by about 6 to 8. So we are not too far apart in our thinking here.

Wayne, has made great adjustments for the most part of the last 4 years. Wayne's coaching started to come into it's own during Anthony Johnson's Sr season. Before then, he was still learning the job, and adjusting to the job. Since then, the man has been the best damn coach the GRIZ could ever ask for, on the court and off the court. Good thing he knew he would have to be openminded and take criticism.

I remember so many fans being hard on Wayne his 1st few years as Head Coach. Many negative things were said his 1st few years. Very few of those fans have come on here to later admit they were wrong, or even give him his due credit. Being fans have so little to bitch about the team, now they bitch about everything but the team. I am proud of his accomplishments as GRIZ head coach. I hope he becomes the Men's Robin Selvig. I want to see him go down as the greatest GRIZ Men's Basketball coach ever. If he can get a few NCAA tournament wins he will be just that. In my opinion, he is already the best ever.

Nice job Wayne and team!!! GO GRIZ!!!

I think many -- and I don't get many right but I'll claim this one as I completely disagreed -- felt msu got the better deal when they got Huse and we got Tinks. There were many posts from Griz fans saying just that.

Think anyone would want to trade now??!??!! Wayne is doing an unbelievable job. And if he can take this team to the NCAAs with all the bad juju they've had, they should sign him to a lifetime contract and build a freakin' statue already!

That would be one damn big statue. I want Wayne here as long as he wants to be here. Even if he were to move on, he will always bleed GRIZ blood. The man has done an amazing job at Montana. I feel he will be the biggest advocate no matter where he chooses to coach. His presence will be felt positively for many years.

I'll never forget during the BSC championship game last year. Wayne was trying to get a timeout, and was SCREAMING for it repeatedly, and finally had to run half way onto the court. The announcers were amazed and were like, "How do the officials miss a 6'10" Wayne Tinkle on the court YELLING for a timeout???"

I think some of the negative perception of Tinkle might have been from his demeanor when he was an assistant under Krysko. Krysko played the "bad cop" and Tinkle the "good cop"' albeit a 6' 10" good cop. He may have been perceived as too soft. He always consoled a player after Krsyko had brow beat the kid.
