Daum to officially visit U of M

"Daum helped lead Butte High to it’s first state title in a generation in 2012 with an all-state sophomore campaign. His junior year, he smashed the state record for catches in a game with 20 and nearly broke the single-game receiving mark with 286 yards, each against Kalispell Glacier. During his Bulldog career, Daum caught 196 passes for 2,997 yards and 32 touchdowns. His 16 touchdowns in 2013 is a Butte High record as are his 1,217 yards and 76 receptions that same year.

"Daum is also the reigning Class AA champion in the 100 and 200 meters."

Love It!!

Daum, an honors student, also had an offer to play football at Harvard University. He didn’t want to play that far from home, and he didn’t like the fact that Harvard doesn’t play in the post season.

Love the attitude!

Hmmmm....if true, while I love the attitude, I question the judgement. Unless my kid was a slam dunk NFL'er, if he had the chance to get an Ivy League education and literally write his own ticket for life, I'd be crushed to see him turn that down---Griz offer or no Griz offer.

But Harvard doesn't offer athletic scholarships. Maybe the finances were such that it just didn't make sense.

Apparently friends, family, and Montana is more important to him than potential money. Or maybe he did not want to be around so many stuck up snobs at an Ivy League school. I know not everyone who attends Ivy League schools are snobs, etc. I applaud the kid or anyone for knowing themselves well enough to follow their heart. There are plenty of American success stories who did well for themselves without an Ivy League education. Hell, there are plenty who did well without a college education at all. Maybe he believes in himself enough knowing he can make it just as big in life without the Ivy League. It all depends who a person is, and what is important to themselves. Just because an Ivy League school and potential wealth is important to some, does not mean it is as important to others.
