its a trip he needs just 3 points tonight to become the 10th all-time scorer in big sky history and he will leave weber with a full yr of eligibilty left.

And Cherry needs 2 assists to break the record and he's only a JR. :thumb: :thumb:
No trying to be a jerk, but I know he's two away from the steals record... Is that what you're thinking of, or is he at the assists too?

Whoops....meant steals...thanks.

I wish he was going to stay but he most likely he will go pro.

That would not be cool after the school went out and picked up an extra road game so you could make him eligible for next year.

I don't think WSU expected Lillard to lead the nation in scoring this year.

he didn't, he is 2nd! :thumb:

The NBA scouts saw two things Tuesday night: (1) a junior point guard with a complete game on both ends of the floor who could play in the NBA next year and (2) Damian Lillard.

Exactly! The best player didn't win MVP! :x

This just made my day! Honestly Lilliard hasn't seemed that impressive to me the times I've seen him in Missoula. It makes me wonder how he's so ready to go pro when the Montana Grizzlies still hold him 2-11 from three, and make him look pretty stupid on some tough jumpers...

Give me a break, and please watch the body of Lillard's work. Every player at every level has an occasional bad game, and that bad game was against the GRIZ. When I was not watching the GRIZ, I was watching Weber State. Lillard is a DAMN good player, with NBA talent, ditto Will Cherry.

Cherry's defense, and leadership are on a higher level than Lillard's at this stage, in my opinion. Lillard is more of scoring threat, but Will Cherry is on his tail. Both need to prove they can be better ball distributors. Then again, they both could be good at that already, but by design of their offenses, they are needed to be scorers for better team results.

Yes, Will Cherry was the better player in the final conference game. For Damian's sake, I hope he shows that "fire" Will does, and does everything he possibly can for this team rest the season. My hope is both Will and Damian both play excellent in the tournament, and the GRIZ win the championship in a nail biter.

I believe both players are NBA capable, just don't what their ceilings are. Will being a true shutdown defender certainly helps him more though. I will be pulling for both these guys rest their careers, college, and pros.

Very well said.

Obviously Cherry got the better of Damian on Tuesday, and both players are great players that have had great years and great careers. But looking at Lillard's body of work for the full year, it is clear that he is ready for the next level and is a great player. He has the more complete offensive game than Cherry, and his numbers compare favorably against every other PG in America. It is clear that Cherry is the better defensive player (and one of the better perimeter defenders in the country).

Both are great players that we are fortunate to have had in the conference this year. I see Lillard going pro this year because I'm not sure there is anything else he could do to help his stock for the pros.

I'm not saying he's not a heck of a player. That's obvious I anyone who watches him. I just don't think he's NBA ready yet. Maybe I'm wrong, let him pore it. I just think it would be smart to use te senior year to get even better. I'm also not saying Will is ready. I think he still has plenty of room to improve. Both are definitely NBA prospects, but I think bog should stay in college another year.

Damian has a tough choice. Jon is right, his stock cannot go up much, and to be honest, he has more to lose than to gain, if he stays. There is just so much a NBA prospect's stock can go playing the Big Sky Conference. Even if he were to repeat or exceed what he did this year, it won't help much. Yet, if he were to have a down year, or God forbid, an injury.........bye bye NBA, and guaranteed money.

Cherry, needs another year to build his offensive game, and show more ball distribution skills. That could change for Cherry though. If the GRIZ were to make the NCAA's, and win a game or 2, with Cherry playing his best, he could find himself being more prominent on NBA radars. The last game against Weber State, finally got him on NBA radars. The ? is, how much larger can he be on their radars?

Yep, exactly.

There are certainly things that Lillard needs to do to improve his game. He is not a great defender, and has not played great in big games this year. That said, as mtgriz says, there is really only so much a guy's stock is going to go up in the Big Sky. Sadly, that is a fact of life. But he has shown the scouts that have come to all of their games this year that he is ready offensively. There is nothing he can do against college opponents that will strengthen or change their minds, in my opinion.

Cherry, on the other hand, I think his weaknesses are a little more apparent, or a little more of a problem at the next level. He is not a great outside shooter... he obviously has improved leaps and bounds over his career, but one more summer of improvement would be a big plus to his draft stock.

Lillard is a first rounder right now, at least in the eyes of most people that assess such things. Cherry, I think, could develop into a late first rounder (just my two cents, I don't really have a lot of insight in the draft process), but I don't think he would get there even with a strong finish.

That is why I think Lillard will leave, and Cherry will be back, and I think both will be making the right choice if that is how it plays out. Just my perspective.

Give me a freaking break. So you know more than the 30+ NBA scouts and execs that have come to watch Lillard play all year, and all of the NBA draft experts? If he wasn't ready to play in the NBA then he wouldn't be rated as the top PG in the draft and a potential lottery pick. Damian couldn't be more ready for the NBA. He would be a fool to stay another year. He's already been in college for four years and is set to graduate this spring. Why stay? He's got guaranteed millions waiting. Staying would be making the same mistake Harold the Show made when he stayed after beating UNC and dropping out of the draft all together. I totally expect homerism on this board, just don't be blind to the facts people.

Who rated him as the top point guard in the draft? All I know about Lillard are his stats. I have only seen him play maybe twice and haven't read any analysis on him. If you have a source I could look up that would be great. Despite the rest of the Big Sky having a sub-par year it's pretty damn cool that this conference has multiple NBA prospects in one season

Chad Ford of ESPN: "In a draft devoid of elite point guard prospects, more and more teams are talking themselves into Lillard. His closest competition is Washington's Tony Wroten Jr."

Lillard is ready for next level. He had an off shooting night, but you could still see just how smooth he is.

Smooth with a really quick release.

He's definitely on another level offensively than anyone else I've seen in the conference.

My gut says Lillard is not a first rounder, especially if he chokes in the conference tourney. I've only seen him live a few times but think he's no where close to where Stuckey was when he left for the draft.
